Default Ted Williams Bond Bread?

Posted By: Dan Paradis

I doesn't look like a Bond Bread card. Does anyone know if this card is legit?

I don't see any Bond Bread cards listed in VCP for Ted Williams.

Shortened the link (sorry)

I believe Williams does have a Bond Bread (Ted Z would know for sure) but due to the lack of clipped corners, this wouldn't be an original.

Not all Bond have clipped corners, some are squared. Measurements the seller lists are correct and they were blank-backed. Keep in mind that Bond had different formats, i.e. "homogenized" (which this would be)came in the bread, "exhibits" were sold in arcade machines and were a bit bigger, and the "premiums" were much larger.
The "homogenized" were widely re-printed but I believe this one looks real.

Thanks. I guess it is real.

Thanks also to: Lengends1033 for this link:

I guess all the cards marked with "*" have squared corners.

I guess I should have clarified myself better. This isn't an original 1947 Homogenized Bond Bread card of Ted Williams that would be found in bread packaging.

There have been several threads on this set. I think the consensus now is that the square corner ones are not original to 1947. I believe Ted mentioned that a few of the cards were reissued in the early 50s with square corners, and these can be distinguished from the more recent reprints by the color of the stock. Do a search on this website for previous threads about this. There is a lot more information.

Here are some of my original 1947 BB cards. I collected these as a 9-year old kid in 1947.

The Ted Williams card is indeed a true picture of Ted. This follow-thru batting pose of Ted was very popular in the 1940's.

All 48 cards in this set that were issued in Bond Bread packages have beveled corners. The SQUARE versions of these cards
fall into two categories......

(1)....they were printed in either 1949 or in the early 1950's

(2)....they are inferior quality reprints (only 24 of the original 48 are in this category).

The price is a dead giveaway
I'll pay $20 all day long for ANY Ted Williams card from this era in the same grade as that card.
I doubt if I even get one offer
As there are NO Ted Williams cards for $20 from the 40's era, even a 1947-66 Exhibit Williams in low grade sells for more than that
Just use common sense
If this card was in a SGC or PSA slab it would be a $200++ card all day long
Remember, there is No Santa Klaus in the kard hobby
You get what you pay for 99.9% of the time
Of course we do get lucky once in a while

Tony, thanks for the response.
However, the price is not $20. That's the starting bid. Using
your theory I could get some nice cards for .01 on ebay!! LOL.

However, you're probably right. I don't think anyone will even pay the
starting bid price for it.

Thanks again for the advice.

Dan
