Granted that you can't really get much information from an inflation calculator when you're trying to compare time frames 100 years apart, but that said:

$5.50 in 1923 works out to about $100 in 2025. Not bad for third-row lower-deck tickets to a World Series game!

That's not just a rare Successful Farming back Jackson. It's a no number on front Jackson. Those are even rarer.

Nothing major but I'm starting to build up my pre-war collection.

I'm enjoying the different ad backs in the M101-4 series. Is there a guide to the relative rarity of the different backs (e.g. Sporting News vs Weil vs Globe?

Here is a link to the Old Cardboard website that has a chart Net54 members Tim and Todd created about the scarcity and relative availabilty of the M101-4 and M101-5 backs.

https://www.oldcardboard.com/m/m101-4/m101pop.asp

and a link to an updated and detailed back article by Todd that is a pdf file on the Old Cardboard website:

I was able to upgrade a couple backs in the T206 HOF set. I should probably finish the set before doing upgrades, but that’s no fun!

Enjoy the weekend,
Bob

Great Ruth card. If you haven't received it yet, make sure not to throw it out when it arrives. If I remember the hobby lore correctly, many years ago Barry Halper accidentally tossed out a Ruth Butter Cream that he won.

Well that is one way to keep the population count down.

And I will keep it in mind to avoid the same outcome

Haven't been picking up much lately but did pick up a few new N172 Old Judge cards I liked and thought it would be fun to make a video sharing some of my favorite cards I have from that set (including the new cards)

Newer pickups:
N172 John Crooks (Sliding Pose)
N172 John Tener (would go on to become Governor of Pennsylvania & President of the National League)
N172 Frank Foreman (Baltimore) -Great image

For fun I searched the web for the Barry Halper Butter Cream Ruth story, and found a 2007 post from a Net54 thread discussing it in more detail, which I have quoted below.

Brian

I had the following story told to me tonight about a Butter Cream Ruth:

Shortly after it was discovered that there indeed was a Ruth card in the Butter Cream set (we're going back quite a few years here), one was offered in an auction. Barry Halper was interested in the card but told the person running the auction that he wasn't thrilled with the minimum bid. The Ruth card ended up not drawing a bid (!), and the next day Halper, who was high bidder on one other item in the auction, said he would purchase the Ruth for the minimum bid.

The other item that Halper won was rather bulky, so the Ruth was packed in a smaller box, which was placed in the larger box that contained the bulky item. I'll skip a few details that aren't that relevant to the story, but the end result was that Halper didn't realize the Butter Cream Ruth had been shipped with the other item, and that Ruth got thrown out with the larger box and packing materials.

So, an incredibly scarce card got even scarcer that day.

Well done on the research Brian. Makes sense on how it can happen but wow what a loss I wonder what that looked like and what it would have been worth today

Swung by the closest card shop yesterday to buy a storage box and found a prewar card! I felt it was my duty to support them, so added a nice looking 1929 Kashin Lloyd Waner

Enjoy,
Bob

That was a great article by Todd and Tim. However, it needs an update to reflect all the Morehouse backs that have popped up recently. Apparently, there is also another large group that may hit the market soon.
