Default The T206 QUINTUPLICATE challenge....try doing this run....if you dare !

A number of us long-time T206 "junkies" never cease collecting T206's. In a thread posted back in 2008, I introduced a challenging
run, which I refer to as the QUINTUPLICATE connection.

During the Spring-Summer of 1910, American Lithographic printed a series of 5 Tobacco backs whose stylistic design is very similar.
The artistic framework of the AMERICAN BEAUTY 350 - BROAD LEAF 350 - 1910 COUPON - CYCLE 350 - DRUM backs is identical. It
most likely was the same artist that drew-up these five backs.

The QUINTUPLICATE run is limited by the 48 Major League subjects in the 1910 COUPON set. My next post will include the checklist
of the 48 guys that you can choose from.

I have an Evers yellow sky run, minus the Drum

I know Speaker is not on the list, but I have this run in Speaker minus the T213, which of course does not exist

Beautiful back run Ted, what would you guess the buy-in on that run is today?

A - B - C - C - D connection (QUINTUPLICATE)

Displayed here is the closest I have come to completing a QUINTUPLICATE run. Since 1981 (when I started my blue Chase run),
I have never seen this Chase with a DRUM back.
What is the probability that at least one blue Chase DRUM exists ?

Note....the A - B - C - D connection of the 350-only Series was printed on 190 subjects.

Hi Ryan

Only one DRUM is known for the Evers yellow sky guy. I wish you lots of luck finding another DRUM, in order to complete the Quintuplicate run of this Evers.

Take care my good friend,

15 years ago, I attained my Frank Delehanty A - B - C - D run, hoping to complete a QUINTUPLICATE run.

T'was not be for Ted Z, as I had completely forgotten that Frank Delahanty is not in the 1910 COUPON set.

Thanks Phil for the compliment.

My guess depends on the T206 subject on the front of those 5 cards. The best I can
say is that in today's market, the cost approaches some "big-bucks".

In 2008 when I first thought of this special run the cost for such a Quintuplicate run
of a given non-star subject was approx. 2K (or less).

VCP does not list any sales of the Drum for the Chase Blue. Have you guys ever seen one come to auction?

Hi James

I noted in an earlier post here that I have never seen a DRUM back on this T206 Chase portrait. I have been searching for one since 1981.

I appreciate the compliment....Chris.

What "bugs" me about this situation is......
Chase appears to be American Litho's favorite guy (five T206 images of Chase, and at least 30 front/back versions of white-bordered T-cards of him).

And yet, no DRUM card of him. Very, very strange !

My favorite T206 fielding pose, Mickey Doolan, is a real challenge. Only two (perhaps 3) of his BROAD LEAF 350 cards are known.
And, as far as I know, no DRUM has been discovered.
Nevertheless, I will continue the search.

I am keeping this thread active, by continuing with this Mickey Doolan run. This T206 Doolan is part of an interesting group of 36 subjects
in the 350-only Series which were not printed with these popular T206 backs....CAROLINA BRIGHTS, EPDG, OLD MILL, POLAR BEAR.

Anyways, this run of mine will be complete when I get his BROAD LEAF 350 and DRUM cards. No DRUM has yet been confirmed, though.

Of all the QUINTUPLICATE runs which I have attempted, this Chance has been a real challenge. I acquired his 1910 COUPON a number
of years ago, so I thought this run would not be a tough one to complete. Well, the BROAD LEAF and the DRUM have proved otherwise.
There are only a couple of the BROAD LEAF cards known. And, just one DRUM card.

low grade Drums of even commons will likely run you at least $7-8k at this point. there are zero Drums even listed on ebay right now. a low grade Broad Leaf will run you between $1500-2000 if you get lucky. You can get Cycles and ABs for $300 or less in lower grade. Coupons seem to vary in price quite a bit depending on the subject.

correction: there is a Bender No Trees Drum listed right now for $49,000

And that's BL 350...BL 460 pricing is similar to, or often higher than, Drum.

Your question is not a "dumb" one.

Obviously, you want put together a Non-Star run of your choice to keep the cost down.

But, a more important factor is choosing a T206 from this group, which has available a
DRUM card. A DRUM card is needed to complete this run......and, approx. half of these
subjects have yet to have their DRUM back confirmed.

Tomorrow, I will post a list of the guys whose DRUM backs have been confirmed.

I received an email from a "Net54 reader" *.....inquiring about the 36 subjects in the 350-only
Series which were NOT printed with..... CAROLINA BRIGHTS - EPDG - OLD MILL - POLAR BEAR
that I noted here in Post #16.

I find this quite interesting, in that it tells us that these 36 guys are "exclusive" with respect to
the other 154 subjects in the 350-only Series. Furthermore, it suggests that these 36 subjects
were printed on a sheet of their own. My guess is this press run was very early in the Spring of
1910. My understanding is that the CAROLINA BRIGHTS & POLAR BEAR backs were not printed
until the Summer of 1910.

Checklist of this "exclusive" group of 36 no-prints (CB - EPDG - OM - PB) in the 350-only series.

It seems noteworthy that both of Huggins' cards (portrait and hands at mouth) would be on the same sheet. That seems odd to me. Yet I agree with the "same sheet" thought being most likely.

Seems to me that generally, (whatever that is) a T206 HOFers portrait gets a slight premium over the other cards. But it seems that Huggins doesn't follow that, the hands at mouth cards fetch a slightly higher price than the portraits.

Hey guys,
Getting back to the main topic....my research has identified one more subject to add to this group of T206's in the 350-only Series. It appears to me that Bob Hall
was not printed with CAROLINA BRIGHTS, EPDG, OLD MILL, nor POLAR BEAR backs, so we can include in him in this unique club.

Now this 37th subject does not alter the configuration of their printed sheet. Thirty seven subjects were printed on a 36-card sheet by simply replacing a particular
subject (due to a player's retirement during that press run) with another subject. American Lithographic did exactly this with the 37 cards printed with AMERICAN
BEAUTY 350 (no frame) cards. Nichols (who retired) was replaced with Stahl. For more information regarding this, check-out Post #39 in this thread.

New checklist of this "exclusive" group of 37 subjects that are 350-only series No-Prints with respect to CAROLINA BRIGHTS, EPDG, OLD MILL, POLAR BEAR.

Hi, Cliff, Bender Trees has a Coupon Type 1, 3 different type 2's, Baltimore, Phili Amer and Nat, and Type 3 factory 3 and 8.

I would try a run if I found a cheap Drum. I try to pick up BL350 if they go cheap. I only have a few bl350. Maybe one day.

Dont forget The Doolin version for completeness, Ted.

Thanks for the thread. The ability to collect these kinds of runs by a reasonable connector is getting buried so most can only enjoy them through you.

Paul

I really appreciate your kind words.

The T206 set is replete with delightful mysteries....and I enjoy exploring them.

I've been doing this for 42+ years. Starting with Hal Chase and Carl Lundgren.
