How does Hunt work?
I see that the auction closed tonight at 10pm but opens again tmrw at 11am for the Live Auction!! How long does that last?? Can anyone bid in any lots tmrw if they didn’t bid in regular time?? I’m still new to the auction house game and this one seems a little different.

Online bidding is prebidding only. So anyone can bid during the live portion assuming they are registered to bid.
They will open each lot in order one at a time to live bidding Live bidding occurs online, over the phone, or in person usually and the lots sell very quickly during that part. I'd call their customer service early today before bidding starts if you need any assistance. I have always found them very helpful. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

I absolutely love how they do their auctions live w prebidding. Fair way to run an auction.
Heresy I'm sure. Last edited by Snapolit1; 12-11-2019 at 11:23 AM. |

You would think that they would offer pictures of the backs of the cards, especially on those where they note that there is some back damage.

My experience is that no matter how strong the ceiling bid, you'll be overtaken as soon as the Live Bidding begins. Rarely (if ever) do the Internet Bids seem to hold on. |

As predicted, my bid failed. I really don't enjoy this kind of bidding but I did really want the item. Oh well.

A quick "Thank you!" for turning me on to Hunt Auctions. As I perused through the auction, I saw one of my 10 Most Wanted staring back at me! Sadly, it was not to be--as I missed the bidding. If anyone on here purchased the T207 Weaver, congratulations and you're fortunate I didn't know of it sooner, Lol. If you ever get sick of looking at it, please let me know. I am now registered with Hunt and will look forward to their next offering.

Their site and lack of pictures is horrid, but their closing format is A LOT of fun. Great material too.
That Waddell photo is 1903 btw and not 1898. Last edited by Bicem; 12-11-2019 at 05:35 PM. |

Unfortunately no, I didn't win it Mark, decided not to bid against people who were led to believe it was 1898.
Picked up the Boston Red Sox cabinets though, these so rarely come up and are beautiful cards/photos. How'd you do? |

Another reason to include pics of the backs of cards is that some cards have different printing variations on the backs. I asked Hunt to send me pics of the backs of 3 lots of WaJo cards, which they did very promptly. Unfortunately (for me), none of the cards had the scarce back variations.

Val that's another odd thing. When someone asks me for more information I assume more people might want the same info so I post it to the auction, not just send it to the person who asked.

On the flipside, those Red Sox Cabinets are awesome... glad it worked out so well, and was an excellent trade-off! As for me, I picked up just one photo in Hunt... a nice and rather poignant shot of John McGraw (Paul Thompson/Baseball Magazine). He doesn't look quite as mean/angry/intimidating as normal. Thompson must've caught him on a good day. https://www.huntauctions.com/live/im...=439&lot_qual= If anyone has a good trick for removing that little circle of residue, please PM me. I think I can probably remove or lessen it, but am open to ideas if anyone here has had success in doing so. Thanks! Last edited by perezfan; 12-12-2019 at 01:29 AM. |

There were many Conlon photos that didn't seem to have Henry Yee COAs. Dicey, particularly without being able to see the actual stamps.

Some of them, and some of them weren't. I consigned about 25 of them to an auction and they were run by Henry. As l recall about 10 of what were submitted for review were fakes. These were the end of the collection Christies was selling.

I have a file copy of that Dean and went after the original yesterday. Came up short. I was in a rush after just signing up to bid as I was unaware of Hunts auction. I'm halfway through a painting of that image--not sure I'll ever finish it.
On subject of makeup, It was quite common for folks to wear some eye &/or cheek enhancements for studio portraits in 1950 and earlier. Dean does have some liner applied to his lower eyelid and some powder on his face for glare reduction. |

Pretty happy to pick up this 1939 Play Ball wrapper. Fairly hard to come by and should go well with the Williams RC I recently picked up.

Hi Phil......long story short : I had sent that "some-kid's-coloring-project" 1931 Metropolitan Studios St. Louis Cardinals (W574) Dizzy Dean in to Beckett Grading expecting only an "Authentic" , no number grade , but at least slabbed for eternal preservation , but it was returned to me raw , just as sent , along with the graders' fact sheet noting that they were "unable to identify".....which I guess I could understand , because even to a vintage grader it's a rarely-seen card , and the skill of the artist who added the coloring is dang good (look at Ole Diz's shoes).....so I'm out $18 but I've had a good story to tell at the Beckett table at the national these past 15 years... ..your work is exquisite by the way , thanks for sharing it with us... .. |
