Thanks David. The OP and I just had a great 15 minute chat on the phone number given after the fact. He is now unbanned. He didn't realize how big of a deal total anonymity is on this board (and giving false registration info). Suffice it to say he does now. I don't think he took it personally either. He has some great cards and there are reasons he doesn't really want all of his info in public, so once verified, all public info was taken down. Being private is ok per the rules.. And I wish him good luck too!!

I could be wrong but if you knew the story it is more believable. I think he is checking on them for a relative. That is really all I can say about it but if he wants to come back and explain more he can. I do think they are real and are close to him. It's not a random troll situation, I don't think. Like I say, I wish him the best. And btw, if he comes back I see no reason he can't only have his user id out here. He picked up the phone when I called

Sean, I don't believe your list is the same as the "basement find". I sorted your list and then tried to post them side by side. This is much easier in Excel then on the board! I highlighted the cards that are different in the "basement find". I didn't go through the whole list and make the differences in bold, just the first 10, but you get the idea.

First off I will say I know very little about T206 cards. Second I will say they all look fuzzy and out of focus like counterfeit cards. Never seen a real Piedmont back with stray printer dots like those appear to have.

I'm guessing that's from the low image quality, plus the fact that (I'm guessing) you're looking at it on a relatively large screen. That image is only 574.19 kb, so it was probably taken with an older cell phone. When it's blown up on a computer screen, it's going to look fuzzy, especially in the parts where the camera wasn't focusing. I would want to see scans rather than a cell phone picture before coming to any conclusions.

Updated gallery with backs
Also updated the link on the first page. As you can see there are 10 pics of the front and 11 pics of the back. When I took the photos of the fronts I guess I missed one of the pages (the one with Doyle). I was able to get a pic of the back (pic #11) but at the time I took the pics of the backs I didnt know I had missed a pic of the front. I dont have the cards with me so I wont be able to get a pic of the front tonght. Sorry! I found these cards in my basement. They were collected by my Grandfather and passed down to my father where they were forgotten for a long time (until I found them). I didnt know they existed until I found them. My father said that my Grandfather did have the Wagner card a loooong time ago however he gave it away to a friend ![]() The cards were packaged like this when I found them. I have not modified them in any way. I am not sure what I am going to do with them. I did collect cards when I was younger. I have a big box full of baseball, football, and basketball cards from the 70s, 80s, 90s but I havent bothered with them for years. Last edited by emd023; 09-15-2016 at 08:34 PM. |

All together now!
We're sorry... In all seriousness, bud, great find. I, like many others, are very interested in the full story behind these cards. Also, I don't know if you have kids or not, and I know you're not a huge card collector, but if you don't need the money at this particular moment in time, I'd hold onto them and pass them down to your kids, and their kids, etc. Not only will they only increase in value (invest in proper protective gear), but they will be a great family "treasure". P.S. I didn't look at the pictures, but is the Doyle in there? If so, congrats on retirement.

Well, his list doesn't specify that it's a Larry Doyle; it just says "Doyle, N.Y. Nat'l". In theory that could be any of the three Larry Doyles or the rare Joe Doyle, though I agree that it's unlikely to be the latter.

There are a few examples of back stamps in the collection.
Can't read the one on the first page. But I can make out: "Harold Easterday" "GLENN LAZZELLE" x7 Too bad there are none from Mr. McCormick...

If he posted a bunch of fuzzy pictures of Drum backs or Honus Wagners or ridiculous "ghost images", I'd get the snarky responses to his posts. But his cards are, for the most part, heavily creased commons with a few poor condition HOFers, all with rather common backs. |

You could never make such a find out here in California. Finding a house with a basement in this state is a million times tougher than finding a T206 Wagner in a dollar box at a garage sale.

I think this is a really cool find. I can't imagine finding a stash of cards anywhere. The feeling would be exhilarating and as you surveyed what you found it would just be fun. Congrats on the find! It certainly isn't a stash of Ty Cobbs, but it beats the only find I have ever made, a 1954 Topps Granny Hamner when we were cleaning out my grandparents house for an estate sale.

One of 3 boxes that survived two earthquakes and a mudslide (SoCal). Was in my bedroom closet for the San Fernando quake (1971). In 1974, on my 21st birthday, I moved to San Francisco. Before I left I put the boxes on a basement shelf, wrote my name on them, and told my mother not to move them. (She was there for the second quake and mudslide). And there they stayed until I picked them up about 10 years ago and brought them back to NY, along with herself. No Wagner in there, but plenty of those cards are now in the hands - or have passed through the hands - of many Net54 members...Ts, Es. Topps, Bowman...etc.
