I know it is an old trivia question, but a good one to know: Who is the only Hof'er to appear on both the N172 and T206 sets?

That would be Jake Beckley, Hugh Duffy and Clark Griffith, though I'm not sure they are one person.

Some insane eye candy in this thread. I'll play.
Bought this 1890 cabinet from Terry Knouse at a bygone National. Sold it in the first LOTG auction. Miss it dearly. ![]() ![]() My KBats collection, all two of 'em. ![]() ![]() Recent acquisition. Couldn't pass it up. ![]() Have showed this before. John Ewing, younger brother of Buck, won 21 games for the Pelicans in 1887. ![]() No info on this photo as to when or where. Might not be 19th century but close as dammit is to swearing and too cool to not show. Maybe Mr Kreindler or some other genius can opine as to which stadium this is. Those columns look familiar. Pittsburgh? ![]() |

Absolutely right. For some reason just thought of Duffy, as I recently picked up a nice T206 of him and forgot about Jake and Clark. Sorry, guys. Is the N172 Griffith his RC? I know copies not cheap.

The reason I guessed Pittsburg was due to a painting that Graig did of Honus Wagner which turns out to have been at Chicago's West Side Grounds. A further look on the internet revealed that the Cubs played there from 1893 to 1915 Link. Probably what would be more telling are the clothes styles depicted. Were these grown-up Terrors of America wearing high collars and bowler hats in the 1890s? Possibly.

The postcard depicts West Side grounds in a construction state that indicates the late 1908 season or later.
The support posts in the photo at the bottom of post 207 don't appear to be a good match for West Side Grounds. Last edited by bmarlowe1; 09-05-2016 at 09:56 PM. |
