For what it's worth I think you made the right call. It obviously wasn't going to sell here. Good luck with the sale.

Now why would I consign with PWCC? I think that HA is a good choice.

A few might not but the majority are fine with him from what I have seen (and note he does advertise here). I think he needs to police his retracting bidders better and I know he is working on it.

Some people don't care for Brent, and those are the ones who post their negative opinions.
But HA should be an excellent choice. Good luck. Last edited by Sean; 11-11-2015 at 04:42 PM. |

The only thing on HA that is negative is the sales tax they charge to more people that bid on these auctions versus PWCC...which does impact some sales when the card is in the thousands..

Yes they collected tax from me on an auction win. But doesn't everyone have to pay the tax?

NOPE depends what state you are in.....you would pay a tax to PWCC if you lived in Oregon....sales tax 5-10% makes its a 25-30% buyers premium.

I don't believe Oregon has a state sales tax. I'm sure that is part of what prompted the move. Makes sense though. I have never bid in a memory lane auction though and rarely in heritage because i'm in CA and it makes it tough to compete.

right the reason PWCC moved was to free up more bids from California....lots of more bids come in from California than Oregon..thats the reason he moved away from California sales tax or not in Oregon..

We will see if you asked too much 25k or if just net54 members are too cheap....its a shame if it goes for 25k with BP...which means 5k was BP (not to mention the extra few hundred for taxes ) and Im assuming there would of been a buyer on net54 at the price before BP but 25k was the firm firm price and no price reductions on a thread that has been gong on for 7 months before card sent to an AH.. Nice. Will also be watching, but this card is out of my stratosphere for bidding.
While I might've picked REA or LOTG to sell it, you can't go wrong with Heritage (plus it's a featured item and part of the live auction). You might want to change your original post (and maybe even the title of this thread) to reflect that it's now offered on Heritage, but that's up to you. I like this last line in the description (not too flowery, and just enough hype to generate some interest): Quote:

I think what happens is that the reserve doesn't post until X number of days left. The sale starts with regular bidding and then, if the reserve has not been met when the reserve posting day comes, the current bid becomes the reserve and it displays as being unmet.

if your reserve is not met i think Hertiage still makes the consignor pay something which may make them want to sell the card at a lower price then the reserve to avoid the fee if the high bid was close

Jake, that would make perfect sense to me.
Does anyone know what the last high bid was before the reserve posted?

It's actually a common practice on Heritage and is posted in their terms and conditions. As are these:
"Nominal Bids. The Auctioneer in its sole discretion may reject nominal bids, small opening bids, or very nominal advances. If a lot bearing estimates fails to open for 40–60% of the low estimate, the Auctioneer may pass the item or may place a protective bid on behalf of the consignor." "The Auctioneer, its affiliates, or their employees consign items to be sold in the Auction, and may bid on those lots or any other lots. Auctioneer or affiliates expressly reserve the right to modify any such bids at any time prior to the hammer based upon data made known to the Auctioneer or its affiliates." In my opinion, these practices seem very similar to those in the Mastro auctions. At least they're not trying to hide them but if any other AH were doing this I think a lot of people on this site would not be happy. Jake is also correct in that Heritage mentions a consignor may have to pay a reduced commission if an item doesn't sell for the minimum reserve. They also say the consignor can bid the item up past this minimum, but if they win they're responsible for the full commission.
