if you put a price it may be easier to sell the card but up to you

Bigb13 03-19-2015 10:42 AM

I have taken this card to several card shows and showed it to a dozen or so people and auction houses and they estimated it at 25-35k. Rob

Rob, if they think the card is worth 25-35K, have any of them offered to buy it from you for that amount?

Republicaninmass 03-19-2015 12:43 PM

I think he missed a decimal

Bigb13 03-19-2015 12:44 PM

I posted that I was listening to offers if someone offers something I can live with than ok but everyone wants a price.

I find that with expensive cards, people don't usually like to bid against themselves and need a price.

Rob D. 03-19-2015 01:40 PM

Any interest in trading for drastic miscuts?

Bigb13 03-19-2015 01:43 PM

Think I will go the auction way

Luke 03-19-2015 02:20 PM

let everyone know where you send it....we can 'out' the card so people know about it so it doesn't go cheap

Bigb13 03-19-2015 02:28 PM

Thanks

I had submitted a private offer well within the reasonable range for this card before it was posted publicly and was spammed 50 times. Told him I wouldn't be interested if it was posted publicly.

I believe he killed his own market by spamming pictures of it everywhere.

what you mean spammed 50 times....they sent out your offer?

you don't have to say your offer but whats the range you think this card would sell for at auction

bobbyw8469 03-19-2015 03:26 PM

I have seen VCP....and yes, the card is rare.

Bigb13 03-19-2015 04:13 PM

Yes it is very rare even the Ty Cobb back has more. Rob

There are 100+ rarer cards than the Red Cobb with the Lenox back -- rarity certainly doesn't correlate directly to value.

The only downside to putting it up for auction is the lack of control you have. Unless you plan on being a JC, you'll have to live with the result. You may want to keep trying for the best offer as the sale of the card means a lot to you.

True. However, a couple of auction houses have stated reserves which does stifle bidding but gives a certain amount of control to the consignor.

Here's one example that sold in 2009 SGC 50

http://www.goodwinandco.com/1909-11-...n-lot6687.aspx

Bigb13 03-19-2015 05:00 PM

Nice example but that was six years ago.

Joshchisox08 03-19-2015 05:16 PM

T206.org values it at about $4,100. I'm sure the back adds some though regardless of what t206.org says.

That 50 is spectacular. Granted it was six years ago but it's a really nice 50. If someone somehow offers you 25K I'd jump on it.

He said he putting it for auction and I asked him to let us know where it is...it not going to sell here as looks like net54 to small a sample for him to get the price he wants or believes would be a good price...I wonder what the biggest sale ever was on net54 b/s/t at least asking price was that was realistic... 100k?

Bigb13 03-23-2015 07:05 PM

I will put it away until I decide what auction house to use. Rob

Bigb13 04-01-2015 06:35 AM

I sold a card for about 52k on the BST, in auction style :)......several years ago. I am not sure there has been a bigger sale, there could have been, I just don't know.

Jobu 04-01-2015 07:36 AM

What card was that Leon?

N167 Buck Ewing if I remember correctly....it was definitely a HOF'er N167 and I think it was him....but it's been 6+ yrs. ....so not sure I would swear on the player...

ps....my memory served me ok... except it was 55k and not 52k......

I may go with Net54 auction not sure yet

Well, we all should get some idea of this card's current value, give or take (this one is a grade higher, but we can adjust after the fact)...

How did this one grade a PSA 3 with that big crease ?

Bigb13 04-03-2015 06:34 AM

That's what I was thinking SGC I think would have given it a 2 good I my opinion

No offense, but that card is considerably cleaner than yours so I can't imagine it grading SGC 30.

Joshchisox08 04-03-2015 07:40 AM

Easy

Who was talking about my card?

Gobucsmagic74 04-03-2015 08:13 AM

Just commenting on the fact that you believe the referenced PSA 3 card would have been graded Good by SGC when it looks considerably nicer than your card which has been graded SGC 30.

Bigb13 04-03-2015 11:01 AM

SGC is a lot stricter than PSA

Gradedcardman 04-03-2015 12:54 PM

Cleaner

I'm with Dan. The REA Cobb is a beauty and very clean compared to the SGC 30. I think the grades are fair.

chaddurbin 04-03-2015 12:59 PM

people bashing psa because it's cool? that's a psa 3 now and would've been a 3 in 2005. would go as far as that deserves a 3 more than the OP's card deserving of a 30 from SGC.

Bigb13 04-03-2015 04:11 PM

This is a BST thread not a bashing thread at least I have one more than the bashing people have.

I'm sorry if you felt like I was bashing your card in any way, its a frickin' amazing card man! Did not intend to offend you in any way...I wish I owned that one.
