First, how is "contentnea" pronounced? Four syllables "con-tent'-nee-ah'", or three "con-tent'-nyah'"? Second, the Standard Catalog lists cards in the 1st series for more than the ones in the 2nd. Does this differential reflect rarity or demand (or both) of the 1st over the 2nd? |

That is a print run of the blue printed on the back. While this one appears to be handcut, I have another player with a like blue print run on the back which appears to be a normal cut and issued card. |

To answer your question I personally think the price of the 1st series is due both to scarcity and demand.....This card I won I think I paid about $100 over market for....if there is a "market price" for this kind of stuff.... |

I've always thought the following concerning the rarity of the two sets when compared to each other. |

It has the same "15" penciled on it and the same horiz crease. It obviously was owned by the same person at one time. But the fact that it has name top and bottom and Leon's is well centered means there could have been a couple of runs like this, perhaps the person who originally got these worked at the place where they were printed. |

Well I got my T209's out and discovered low and behold mine has a penciled number as well "25" obviously these were some old timers pricing on these. As I stated earlier I thought this was a machine cut one, but now it does not appear so. However, I have quite a few regular ones which don't appear perfectly cut. Could this have been an issue where some were hand cut while others machine cut like the 09 obaks. |

I think this particular group of cards was deemed not worthy of being machine cut due to the error and was taken home as a keepsake and hand cut later. |

Scott- on the second panel you have the same Hoffman that Brian W. displayed, so they were issued. Weren't we all trying to figure out what those strips were a while back? What was the conclusion? |

Sorry I did not make myself clear, there are 2 issued series 1 cards on the 2nd strip. Yes we did have an expose last year? on these, again they are about 1 1/2 times normal size on very heavy cardboard stock, much heavier than card stock. At the bottom of one of them is the very top of some block lettering, which unfortunately can't be made out. These do not fit together so there was at least one more panel of players. |

Here is a back scan of a T128 Contentnea (same factory number as T209s). It says "pronounced CON-TENT-NA." Most likely this means "con tent nah" and not "con tent nuh," although I have heard it both ways by respected collectors. |

Since this thread was posted, and we talked about the pencil marks on the backs of these "ghost back" cards, I have thought this is one time that removing the pencil marks would be an injustice. There is a time and place for everything and taking these off of the backs would hurt the provenance a little bit, imo. The pencil mark stays on the back of mine and my guess is they will stay on the others shown too.....best regards |

Too me, as a collector, the pencil mark that was done by another collector from an earlier time, providing that it is not across the face, can be part of the attraction and charm of the card. |
