Twenty-five years ago today we lost John Lennon. To honor his memory, let's have no fighting or insults on the board for twenty-four hours. In other words, all I am saying is give peace a chance. |

I was too young for Kennedy (technically, not born yet), but I remember Lennon's death vividly. I was on a camping trip in Yosemite with my 10th grade class. A few of my classmates went to town for provisions. They came back announcing the death. One of the girls in our class was a total Lennon groupie. She collapsed, lots of others were crying too, just a horrible day. |

I remember Kennedy's death- I was out of school with a cold and I put the TV on after lunch and there was a bulletin and I knew right away something bad happened, and I heard about Lennon like many others from Howard Cosell on Monday Night Football (they've been playing that tape on the radio this morning). Adam, who is the sleeping giant that was awakened yesterday? |

I also remember Kennedy. I was home sick playing tittly winks in the parlor and over heard a news flash from the living room that the President had been shot. I like millions of other Americans heard about Lennon from Howard Cosell. I remember thinking what could John Lennon have done so bad that someone would kill him? A few events in American history that we will always remember where we were. |

WTF are you talking about?? I was merely pointing out that yesterday was the anniversary of a world-shaping event by attempting to blend two very famous quotations about the day. The first part of the line I wrote references FDR's speech to the American people after the attack, the 2nd references a line that was attributed to the Japanese admiral who conceived of the attack when he learned that the attack had been launched prior to the declaration of war hence was a sneak attack. The actual line attributed to Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto on realizing that he had engaged in a dishonorable sneak attack is: "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." He never said it; the line was created for the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! The other common Yamamoto quote predicting the future outcome of an attack on the United States ("I can run wild for six months … after that, I have no expectation of success.") is real, and is something he is recorded to have said to a number of different Cabinet members in Japan in the 1940 time period. |

of course i would rather he hit neither, but, if given the choice between having chapman hit john or yoko, i would rather he hit yoko. on a related note, you may want to consider my bias in the fact that i once wrote a screenplay called "killing yoko ono", about a one time use only time machine, and what the owner would do with it if given the choice. |

Time travel was discussed in a recent thread. Most guys would have chased CJ's and T-cards and the like. I would have taken in a few ballgames and asked Rita Hayworth for a date. I don't recall anyone wanting to kill anybody. |

Gee- when I started this thread it was done from the heart and I truly wanted one day of no fighting on the board, which obviously didn't work since a skirmish broke out on this very thread anyway. And "Anonymous", if you think I started the most ridiculous thread ever, I would appreciate it if you post your full name. I think it's board rules that you can't make such a comment unless you identify yourself. Thank you. Sincerely, Barry Sloate |

Sorry, I deleted that anonymous person's post as per the board rules, so your comment to him might look out of place now. Suffice it to say if that person wants to re-post with his full name it can stay....again, as per board rules. I think this is a good thread, myself....At least it had/has good intent....best regards |

Morrison's gravestone is a pretty popular shrine- people visit it regularly. Was fortunate to see the Doors twice- including once at the Fillmore East when it was still called the Village Theatre. Had to leave early though- don't ask, long story. |
