Default Beckett to SCG

What should I expect cracking a card from a Beckett slab and sending it to SGC?
Same grade? Higher? lower?
Card(s) will be 1972 Topps

Just wondering what other collectors have experienced
Thanks Scott

What flavor of Beckett slab is it? Hopefully it’s not one of those BCCG slabs…

Of course there’s no predictable formula but I would expect that SGC would on average maybe grade it ~1 numerical grade lower.

This is a cop out, but I’m guessing that it depends on what’s wrong with the card, and probably how long ago it was graded by Beckett. Centering, corners, registration, edges, scuffing and scratches, every grader has a slightly different take on how those should impact the grade.

Some would also argue that which grader picks up your cards also matters.

I suspect that your experience will probably be all over the place. Some the same, some down, and maybe even some up.

Default Beckett Grading

I always stick to PSA and/or SGC but on occasion a card I want is in a Beckett Holder ... Now I have been around the block a few times ... I bought a 1951 Mays Bowman (ex) and a 1920 Ruth W522 (vg) .... based on my eye - both cards are graded spot on, in fact my Mays card could have been a ex+ ... As far as the strip card - it measures up and has very nice borders. Because it WAS in a Beckett Holder, I was able to bargain down the price a bit ... Therefore I am of the opinion that you use your experience and not who graded it - to a point. Beyond PSA and SGC and then to Beckett there is no other grading company that I would buy unless I was able to inspect the card. All other holders I treat as if I am buying a raw card ... Anyone have an exception to the big 2 and then Beckett as a #3

I only submit to SGC but buy both PSA & SGC. I really don’t buy or submit to anything else. As stated above if I were to buy CSG or Beckett I’d treat as if raw. I may have to bite the bullet and submit a few on card autos to Beckett because there is no way in hell I’m using PSA and waiting a second lifetime for the return.

Anyways back to the grading, I’m in your corner I really hope your grades transfer the same but I doubt it.

Danny

I sent a bvg 6 Dan Dee to SGC still encased by bvg and got it back a 6.5. I did not crack it.

I know some food issues grading standards were changed within the last 5? Years to be a bit more lenient on issues that came into contact with food.
