Net54baseball Ages.....

Haven't done this in a while. Many years ago, if I recall correctly, the average age was around 41-42. My guess is the group will be a little younger but not too much. We will see. As someone who just turned 60 (damn!) I might be in a different age group now LOL.....thanks in advance for your participation.

Hello Steve,

I taught History at the middle school level for six years and five at the sixth-grade level. During my time stationed at one middle school, I also worked in the office for seven years in community partnership and as the administrative designee, which meant I had to assist in many administrative roles, although I was still technically a teacher. Most of my career was spent teaching grades 4-6. Yes, a background in history could be a contributing factor in collecting baseball cards, although my wife would view it more in the light of budgetary delinquency.

Nice observation Brian, my guess is chasing tail. Fittingly, I believe my collecting took a break during pretty much that exact span.

I’m 37, been collecting since I can remember. Collecting vintage 17 years, or since I first signed up for eBay in 2004, junior year in college.

I also turned 60 in October, I definitely feel as I am in a different age group. I thought there would be more respondents from our age group.

I still believe he is the greatest player to have ever played the game. To walk as many times as he did when the opposing pitcher knew it was essentially like giving up a double or triple is simply astonishing. Oh, and I like the card because I seem to have an affinity for B&W (err...old) cards. Sadly, this is one that I sold a few years ago before the run-up in value. Maybe one day I'll get another...

He was a run creating machine the likes of which has rarely been seen. As Bill James said, if you could split him in half, you'd have two Hall of Famers. Great speed with a .401 career OBP in 3000+ games, that's a devastating combination.

And he knew it too... I know it rubs some people the wrong way, but I love that outsized confidence especially when someone can really back it up. Certainly beats "We’ve got to play them one day at a time." lol.
