Default FS: Price Drop- Uniform Advertisement- Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson Johnny Evers

Decided to sell to sell this piece, and going to keep dropping the price until it sells- now asking $350 shipped. PM me as well if interested. Original thread below, thanks!

Wanted to see if I could get some assistance with the following baseball uniform advertisement I picked up at an antique store the other day. It looks to be 1910 era, has Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson and I believe Johnny Evers on it. The reverse has 7 of the 8 pieces of original Silk used to make the uniforms. The only other thing I can find that’s similar is an eBay listing for a page that is similar but not identical to mine. They’re is page 28 and mine is page 38 from looks what to be a large book, and theirs doesn’t have any of the original fabric on the back and had 9 pieces instead of 8.

Can anyone shed some light on this piece? The printing looks to be 1910 era lithograph, and I love how it still has the silk pieces on the back.

Great pickup and really cool piece! This is similar to pages from several other salesman's sample oversized books I've seen over the years: Royal Tailors, Crack-A-Jack uniforms, etc. Is the manufacturer named anywhere, I can't read the printing? I've always thought they made great display pieces, and have had several featuring WaJo over the years. I'd put the value at somewhere in the $500-$1,000 range.

Thank you! And I can’t find anything about the manufacturer or who printed it. I apologize with the photos, to get them down to the size to upload them I needed to shrink them significantly. I think it doesn’t have any printing annotations or information at the bottom because it was part of a large book. It measures 15.5x18 inches.

I think too it would be difficult to display as the back is where the fabrics are at, so it’s not like something you would want to frame. Plus it’s cool getting to touch the silk pieces with the pin strips that were used to make the uniforms.

I disagree on the display factor, I'd put that at very high. You would do it with double-sided glass so you could show the patches when you wanted to, but the other side is gorgeous, with huge stars, and would be the centerpiece of some advertising collectors' walls. Condition is off, but not enough to kill its desirability, IMO. As the saying goes, "find another one." Cobb and Johnson, with Evers thrown in? Portraits and action shots? Multi-color? Killer piece.

Great point, and yes, double-sided glass, maybe with a hinge that can allow you to rotate it or something would be really neat. I think I’m going to put it up for auction, but not sure if I should use an auction house or do it on eBay. Either way I appreciate the feedback and if anyone else knows anymore about this piece, or who made them I would be very grateful.

I'm not sure you could get it into a major auction due to condition, and eBay can fall through the cracks and be a big disappointment. I'm guessing you didn't pay much for it, if it was mine I'd put it up on the B/S/T at a price you'd be happy with, and you can always take offers. Guess I have a lot of time on my hands today, just full of unsolicited advice! Anyway, thanks for sharing it with us, and good luck!
