Very cool.
On a related note, has anyone come up with a good way to display cards in top loaders? I'm aware of the one specialty binder, but it's quite expensive. |

Here's an unusual display box that I picked up not too long ago. It was described as a 1966 cello box. I have not been able to find any other examples while searching the internet and would be interested in any information regarding exactly what year it's from. I'm pretty sure it's not a '67 cello box as the examples I have seen of those held 48 packs and are a bit larger in size.

I started this thread shortly before the pandemic hit, and promptly forgot about. It's great to see that others here appreciate display boxes. Like everything else, the prices of boxes have skyrocketed in the last few years, and the inventory available seems much smaller. Here are a few boxes I've picked up.

I'm a bargain hunter, and one of the things I look for are boxes missing tops, and tops missing boxes. You can often pick them up cheap. It's much easier to find the bottoms than the tops. If I can find both, I display them together, like the 1958 Topps box above. It was way cheaper than finding a complete box. Right now, I'm searching for tops of 1956 Topps and 1964 Topps boxes.
By the way, has anyone ever noticed that Clay Dalrymple is batting on the 1963 box and catching on the 1964 box? |

Chris---what year is the Football Plaks box ?
John--I don't collect boxes but know that the 68 baseball Plaks box is a very rare item. I have an unopened 69 Plak pack, the 2 checklists and for a long time felt I had the full set until the Mays ( which is on the checkilist but had not been seen) showed up, I think in a Mile High auction. Think Larry S has it. Have not seen another. There are two versions of the Mantle, big and small nose ( mine is small). Although they exist on the 2 checklist cards, as far as I know Gary Peters, Frank Robinson, Hank Aaron and Don Drysdale do not exist in Plak form. Anyone know differently ? |

I have lost track of how many sports card and memorabilia related boxes I have but would guess it's somewhere in the 400 to 500 box range...yes, I very likely have a box addiction.
This box may be the oddest one that I have ever saved...it is a very large box that contained just one pack of 5 cards (3 player cards, a card that could be redeemed for a free pack of Topps digital cards and a coupon card for savings on Topps products)...the cards were part of a 50 card set issued by Topps in 2016 and were distributed thru Walmart Marketplace...oh yeah, there was also a pizza included...I have the complete set...but no I didn't eat enough pizzas to complete the set. ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |

There were several different display boxes. I have also seen a National League box and several team boxes. And I think there was a Major League box as well. I have a few superball samples shown. I took this shot at a county fair display this summer and posted it in a thread somewhere, but does anyone know what year it's from (to help with my peace of mind)?
oldtoppswaxpackbox.jpg Edited to add: the "EXTRA FEATURE" is deckle-edged, so it must be from one the pair(?) of years they included such cards...unless it's a stamp graphic?? (Uh oh...looks like I'm headed for a rabbit hole if I don't get an answer quickly!!!)

After looking at this thread and seeing some amazing boxes I went and picked up 2 from my first years of collecting. I remember going into Clio IGA and picking up some 1975 cards. Over the course of the summer I realized that some of my cards were smaller never aware that it was the mini version.

I spent the summer of 1975 on a lake in Upper Michigan, and all the corner store had available were minis. I've always liked them, and I think the 1975 box is one of the better designs. I believe the pitcher pictured is Hank Webb. The 1976 box you posted is a curious one — why is Brook Robinson batting left-handed, and why did he wear such a short bill on his batting helmet?

It was on full display in 1975. That's why I brought it up in post #51. The Topps art department just grabbed his '75 pic and did a reversal on it for the boxes. Pretty funny...
