I asked this in another forum and received some very good answers so I figured I'd ask here:
If you had $2500-3500 to spend on 1-3 cards what would you buy for PC and/or what would you buy as an investment. So essentially two part question: $2500-3500 for PC And $2500-3500 for investment And why? |

If you'd asked me a year ago, I'd say a 1952 Topps Mantle for investment and PC, but that has probably come and gone. I think we are seeing an uptick in the market right now, so it's hard to see anything as being a good investment right now. If I was buying for my PC, I'd probably pick up a couple of regional or Venezuelan Mantles, given that they are awesome cards and a bit under appreciated in my opinion.

Since I strictly collect post war, I'd say you can't go wrong with either Mantle's or Aaron's. Preferably Aaron's RC and what ever money left over to purchase the oldest, highest grade Mick you can find.
Clemente is another option instead of Hank, and actually maybe a better choice, but that is subjective. Willie Mays also comes to mind as his cards seem to be hot lately as well. Good luck. ![]()

I think that for the time being, the investment ship has entered pure speculation. As for my personal collection, I'm torn between grabbing a signed 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle before the 53T goes batshit insane like the 52T, or going after some of the tougher signers in the set. Probably the latter.

I wonder if people are going to be dropping tons of cash on cards next week. Blue collar collector guys like myself are priced out of the market for nicley centered graded 6+ HOF rookie cards. For a 3,500 card I'd be putting money down to pay it off over prob 8-12 months. I'd still go with the best 53 Topps Mays I could find for the 3,5000. IMO this is strictly a investors/short term flip market, holding for less then a year, then selling. I was wondering if any of you guys are nervous about paying up for a card during this time? I know I'm very skeptical about it. Any thoughts ?
