I don't normally collect press photos, but picked up this 1935 photo featuring HOFer Larry MacPhail (3rd from left), mainly because it also pictures a buddy of mine's grandfather, pitcher Bud Teachout (far left). Teachout had a brief major league career with the Cubs & Cardinals, before finishing with the minor league Columbus Redbirds (MacPhail's team). Couldn't pass this up.

I love mail! My first graded T206, a very crisp looking Harry Davis; surprised it's just a Good/30

Thanks Jimmy!

Ed,

Baseball players?

Greg,

Although the jaw line and the nose may remind people of Thorpe, remember Thorpe was 6'1".

Wow that's fantastic Craig!

Were you holding out for a big name player for #2000? or it just happened to be a Red Cobb by chance?

also I'd be curious to see your backs distribution % (just for fun) if you have it handy.

Default E98 Matty

Psyched to make a deal for this Matty outside eBay, and got to do the preferable in person exchange for it since the seller happened to live nearby. It's graded a 1, but looks much better in hand.

Nice Cobb. I want a red background, but can't seem to save enough to buy one. Maybe that should be a goal this year. I hear there are a few Ty Cobb backs going up for sale.

Now my earliest card (1882), and got two others, too. And as they say, "the most beautiful of the pre-war advertising cards."

Since this isn't the BST we can talk about stuff. It went for $956 after juice last night in the weekly Heritage auction. I was the under bidder. Cool card but hard to calculate value.

Indeed. I paid through the nose for that bad boy. Sorry Leon (kinda...not completely...maybe a little sorry ). I figured you may have been in on it at some point.

I wish it was an antique store find. All I ever see at antique stores and malls are junk wax, junk wax era cards, and 1960's-1980's programs and store model equipment.

I have never seen another T209 like it.

I was an underbidder (though not the underbidder ) too. Pretty crazy card. I'm not into scrap at all, but I thought it was really neat. I actually thought it went pretty cheap compared to other recent scrap T209-1 auctions. I wonder if not being slabbed contributed to that.

The thrill of the hunt though right? But sometimes it does pay off! While I didn't find a scrap card I did find a T206 Drum back in an antique store. Before that the best I did was finding some good/vg 55 bowman commons for cheap! And yes.. several boxes of 1988 Donruss!

Great pick ups everyone!!
