I'll kick off May with a cool baseball ticket pickup.
Last night I purchased an Indians ticket with major Bob Feller significance, but so much happened in this game that really there's something for everyone that loves baseball... 1940 was a breakout year for Rapid Robert. He began the year by pitching MLB's 1st and only Opening Day no-hitter. On September 22, 1940 Feller put an exclamation point on what would certainly be one of his two best career years (the other being 1946) by winning his 27th and final game (career high). To top it off he also homered in the game, hitting career HR # 2/8. In 1940 Feller led the AL in virtually every category: Bob Feller Pitching Record 1940 (Led AL in BOLD) Year Team G GS CG SHO GF SV IP W L ERA 1940 CLE A 43 37 31 4 5 4 320.1 27 11 2.61 I mentioned that this game had something for everyone. The Indians defeated their perennial AL rival the Tigers. This game featured a literal bevvy of homers by both teams. 7 players actually homered in the game including HOF'ers Bob Feller, Hank Greenberg and "The Mechanical Man" Charlie Gehringer. Check out the box score below. It was a crazy cool game! I am the excited about this collection of early Princeton baseball uniforms belonging to Richard S. Hendey, who played Varsity from 1928-1930. Collection highlighted by his varsity uniform. Purchased from his granddaughter.
Here is one pic, with a link below to more pics and other items, and more of his story. (Our good friend Keith Javic also picked up some nice pieces from this Hendey collection.) http://www.antiquesportscollector.com/PrincetonUni.html Princeton09d.jpg |

Just picked up two wonderful 1930s Cincinnati Reds game used bats. The players are Billy Myers and Babe Herman. Most folks might say, nice... not thrilling but nice. For my collection these are rather significant in that Myers collected the first base hit in a major league night game and also scored the first run (24 May 1935; Crosley Field). Babe Herman hit the first home run during a major league night game (10 July 1935; Crosley Field).

He is, in fact, related to the great Joe Jackson who he was named after.
