To Whomever Beat Me For The Signed 1915 Cracker Jack Marquard Last Night:
I guess you should be congratulated, but really... What were you thinking? You just paid $2,700 for a Rube Marquard autograph. I'm pretty sure you broke the record. Are signed CJ's rare? You bet. There are only a few known, but guess what... Three of those are Marquards, and this one isn't even the best example. Also, you should know that no one was willing to bid more than $1,200 for this card than me. That's right... The only bidder bidding into your outrageous ceiling bid was me. So, if and when you try to sell this beauty, you had better hope I am still interested. And since I just paid $100 for a signed M101-2 Marquard -- the only one known -- I think I'll probably just sit that one out. In closing, I want to say that I hope you enjoy your latest cardboard treasure, and appreciate it half as much as I would have, which I am certain will be at least twice as much as you will. Fortunately, I am now $2,500 richer, and can put that money toward some pretty sweet cards. All the best, Sour Grapes Underbidder ![]() p.s. Feel free to email me if you ever want to sell it or trade it.

Why did you bid it up to $2500 if it wasn't worth it?

Two people bidding up an item to a crazy level is a time honored hobby tradition. Nothing new here.

This made me laugh because I have felt this way about cards sometimes. I especially like the end when you say you may not want it, but he go ahead and contact me if you want to sell.

I think the OP was being Tongue-in-cheek. I am sure he is upset that he didn't win, but based off his winky smile I think he knows that it is just what he said it was "sour grapes"

I took the post as completely tongue in cheek. I've felt the same way many times in the past. You keep plugging in bids saying to yourself "really??!!" "WTF??!!". Hopefully the winning bidder feels as passionately about the card as the OP.
I remember feeling the same way about a T206 Piedmont 350-460 Factory 42 that I thought I was sneaking up on because of the way it was listed on ebay. I felt much better afterwards though when I found out who won it.

I have to say I feel your pain. I recently lost a card I would have Cherished for many years to a reseller. It does not feel good but hopefully another Snodgrass great find will come along for you. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat so true for vintage collectors.

Oh, that card is definitely worth $2,500 ....but not a penny more!
I hate losing out on cards that I was willing to overpay by hundreds or thousands of dollars on. Hate it, hate it, hate it. I wanted to capture the emotion of that -- while also acknowledging that I was being totally hypocritical.

I guess Ted finally took pity on me -- thanks for keeping me in mind when it was time to move this beauty on...
