Topps Cards that never were
There is a great blog on this topic and he has some great work.
http://cardsthatneverwere.blogspot.com/ He's showing some great cards that he and others have made of final cards of the big stars. If you like this type of thing, I highly recommend it

I was honored
to see that he used one of my articles as the inspiration.

I really like '55 Topps so I'd have loved to seen a Mantle and Musial in that set originally.

What would a 52 topps Satchel Paige single print high number 408 go for????? (with one black star).

My 1952 Bobbs Satchel Paige #408 has one red star, I'm jealous.

Wow!
Thanks for sharing this link. I had no idea this guy was displaying some of my creations. It's wonderful that he ascribes credit to each artist.

Card that was anf then was not
This is my favorite, compliments of Bob Lemke, because this card ( Topps 1958 # 145) does show up on the actual checklist on card 44 ( Senators team card), but then is gone on card 134 ( Phillies team card) of the 1958 set. It was pulled after the player got into some legal difficulties. No known examples of an original are known

Bob, I like the first one better, because the photograph fits with the rest of the 1958 set.
I am also disappointed I am no longer able to buy your creations. I understand your reasons, just disappointed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Couple Quick memories
The 1962 Jackie Jensen is there because in the early hobby days when I was working on a 62 Topps Master set, I was trying to guess which cards were printed and missing. For whatever reason Jensen has stuck with me as a card I always wanted to see.
And in the original article it is mentioned that Jim Wynn is in there as my choice That is because before Cesar Cedeno he was my favorite player growing up. Yes I was an Astros fan stuck in New Jersey, no wonder I moved to Texas |

Where's my Mark Fidrych '76? The Bird was the word in '76 !! Even started the all-star game and didn't even rate a rookie card. To a 10 year-old in Detroit I can tell you it was a major disappointment that summer!
My dad actually took this photo on an assignment for a magazine that summer. It comes from a slide which is what I think Topps actually used to use. |
