I enjoyed the article by Dan Barry; his youthful, religious love of baseball strikes a chord within me.
Maybe I'll let my wife drag me to the Met this summer. But why only 600 cards? |

I'll check out the exhibit soon. i've seen many of his cards there before. there is one particular wall in the American wing where they display some of the Burdick collection (the larger balance is tucked away in the museum). they rotate cards often, with each exhibit having a different theme. i hope this exhibit will have a larger wall in a different area...that would make it feel fresh and more special.

The article has a small mistake- Dan Barry wrote Christy Mathewson would rather play chess than carouse, but Matty of course was a great checkers player. Don't know if he even played chess.

lol. Teams would hire people to try to coax him into bars for all night checker games the night before he was scheduled to pitch.

Burdick spent a lot of time mounting his cards. Are any of the cards loose, or are they all glued onto pages?

I was there maybe 15 years ago. They let you see the stuff tucked away in the back if you make an appointment.
