Really nice article. I'd love to see this collection in person. |
Almost makes me want to leave the Island to go see it..........almost.
|
I'll go down and see it at some point and write a review when I return.

I enjoyed the article by Dan Barry; his youthful, religious love of baseball strikes a chord within me.
Maybe I'll let my wife drag me to the Met this summer. But why only 600 cards? |
I'll check out the exhibit soon. i've seen many of his cards there before. there is one particular wall in the American wing where they display some of the Burdick collection (the larger balance is tucked away in the museum). they rotate cards often, with each exhibit having a different theme. i hope this exhibit will have a larger wall in a different area...that would make it feel fresh and more special.

The article has a small mistake- Dan Barry wrote Christy Mathewson would rather play chess than carouse, but Matty of course was a great checkers player. Don't know if he even played chess.
|
I was there maybe 15 years ago. They let you see the stuff tucked away in the back if you make an appointment.

the article says
Burdick spent a lot of time mounting his cards. Are any of the cards loose, or are they all glued onto pages?

As far as making an appointment, it can be difficult. You need a reason they deem worthwhile- say writing an article or a book- to get an appointment. |

Wasn't like that when I went. I was there, asked someone about the cards, they said I can view them with an appointment which I made for the following week. But that was at least 15 years ago I guess maybe their policy has changed. |

WOW how time flies. I am just doing the math in my head, 15 years ago would have been 1998. I was there to view there card collection 20 maybe even 25 years ago not 15 years ago. I am sure policies have changes like Barry stated :(
