What 2 cards would not sell even if you where offered...
What 2 cards would not sell even if you where offered say 40% to 50% over current market value?
I would have to go with my 52 Topps Mantle in PSA 4 and my T206 Murray variation card (misspelled name). If you have pictures please post them I do not have any available. Post # 2 Last edited by Zone91; 05-24-2013 at 07:15 AM. |

Guys come on the fight is over like Leon said let's talk cards. If you are not able to talk cards PLEASE do not write in my thread....I will not allow this one to become a train wreck. And will not answer any replies if they do not pertain to baseball cards.

For 150% market value, I'd sell every card I own, other than my pops' stuff from when he was a kid. Then I'd start collecting all over again with the cash

Yes I do own a 52 Topps Mickey Mantle in PSA 4 (just meant that is one of the cards I would be OK with spending that kind of money on and I did the other 3 cards in that thread you are referring to I do not own) I should have wrote beside that statement already owned I just took for granted people already knew that here...I was wrong I guess. He has a limit of 15 posts per day for right now. I expect that limitation to be lifted in the future. It's a sanity check for the moment... (Please don't respond to this Adrian)

Paul, is that Johnson
the one that showed up on eBay a couple years ago that was 1) for sale by someone and 2) sitting in your collection at the same time? I seem to remember contacting you about a card that you already owned that was up for auction, and the guy claimed he owned it, even though it was a scan of a card you owned at the time, same number and everything....

This one, just because it's the first prewar card I bought. Market value is pretty low, so 50% over just wouldn't be worth it.
There really isn't a second one. There are a bunch of cards that 40-50% over might not be enough simply because I really couldn't replace them. Either ones that are really hard to find, or ones that are in way above average condition. Steve B |

I would sell my Mantle Bowman and Topps PSA-1 rookies for 40-50% over value, then use the money to re-buy them in a little better condition.

Nothing. Anything that I have ultimately is for sale--it's just stuff, after all--but the rare stuff would be for sale only with a mark-up over what I consider to be the real value. I suppose the last things I'd want to sell are the cards I got when I was a kid and still have. There are a few of them. They aren't worth much, relatively speaking, but they remind me of my childhood so I'd just as soon not sell them even at a substantial mark-up. Now, if you want to give me life-altering money for them, I will not only sell, I will carry them to your car for you. I may be dumb but I'm not stupid, after all.

Tough question, as I have more than 2
Adrian, first off, I'm very glad you came back. You provide thought-provoking threads and responses. Our hobby needs that more than ever. With that, keep taking the time to stick in that 'ol punctuation; makes your worthwhile comments easier to read and more creditable. 1) I was blessed to be able to get a 1954 Stahl-Meyer Franks of Mickey Mantle in 1989. The owner gave me 2-3 months to raise the money and agreed to hold it for me. I managed to just pull it off, through SCD sales. It was easier to do that then. So, I turned $2,500 worth of cards into 1 single card. Absolutely, positively marvelous card. If a card could be breathtaking, this one has it. Eventually, in 2008, I got the Mantle graded by SGC. Because of its one problem, it received 50 VG-EX, but I figured it would. The problem is a half-inch back crease from the middle side in (you cannot see it on the front). Years later, the man who sold it to me got a chance to see it again and remarked, "I forgot how great that card looked." 2) Though not a card, I have a mint 1935 Chicago Cubs World Series press pin. I traded rather heavily for it. It was the pin issued to the AL president, Will Harridge. I never tire of looking at that gorgeous artifact. To think, the Cubs won their last 21 games of the season to take down the defending Series champions, the Cardinals. Mr. Wrigley was very frugal, and did not make pins for every Tom, Dick, and Harry. They weren't facing NY either, so the press corps attending this Series was not as humongous as would have been the case if the Yanks had been their opponent. That's why of the 5 Series pins of that era involving the Cubs, the 1935 is the toughest, and perhaps the prettiest of the 5. Sure wish the Cubs had won their last 21 in 1969. Oh well, it was great while it lasted. Again, Adrian, welcome back and stay put. As Lionel Carter told me about his writing, I keep punchin'. So do the same, fellow collector warrior! -----------Brian Powell Last edited by brian1961; 05-24-2013 at 11:10 PM. Reason: small stuff |

Tough Question!
Here are 2 cards I won't sell. Two reasons; (1)They would be too hard to replace. (2) I'm the only kid on the block that has them this nice.

I'm not sure that there is a current "market value" for these since they are one-of-a-kind and have not been offered on the open market, but I would not take 5x the highest price paid for any other N167 common.

Cards I will not sell
My 1958 Topps Baseball "master set" in SGC is something I will not sell. Hoping to pass it down to the grandkids as soon I have it at 100% (now at 78%). With regrets of selling other cards over the years and making the mistake to think you can get them back, Ive learned some valuable lessons. Keep the cards you like cause once they are gone..........they are gone.

probably my e104-3 Doolan (in my avatar), and maybe my e107 Murphy. Anything else can be had for a good price. Those two cards aren't even the most expensive cards in my collect; rather, they are two cards I would have extreme difficulty replacing.

Not sure which, but
for me, it would have to be personally obtained cards of now-deceased players. Anything else I have, even if very difficult to replace, doesn't have the same sort of sentimental value.

Probably these two cards as they both came out of Zach Wheats Scrapbook. Zach Wheats T206 of himself is pretty special to me.
