This is a photo that has been in my family for years. My grandpa worked for the Post Dispatch in which this ended up in the paper. This photo is from the world series where Babe Ruth promised to hit a home run for a kid that was sick and his 3rd home run went out of Sportsman Park and thru the dealerships window where he took a picture with the ball outside a few days later. My question is. does anyone know what this could be worth? I would imagine it is a Type 1 photo. the name of the person who took the photo is on the back along with I guess who they worked for. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

I’m assuming it is 6.5x8.5 and assuming it is Type I....I’d say $600-ish. Give or take $200 either way. It’s a good photo. Not quite a great photo. Just my opinion…

That is a great photograph. Nice collection piece. I’m sure the photograph is dated or a newspaper article could verify when the Babe visited the dealership for the photograph.
I’m wondering if it was more than just a few days after the home run. The reason is the dealership would have had to come up with the idea to have the sign made, had a company make it, have it installed, and somehow arranged for the photograph opportunity with the Babe all in a few days? Surely possible, but that’s a quick turnaround. |

I'll bet that the car dealership across the street from the stadium had a contact with the team, and breaking a car window with your third home run during a WS game doesn't happen very often. Post game press session : Reporter - "Hey Babe, did you know that your third home run broke a window in a car across the street? The Babe - "Is that right kid? Maybe I should go take a picture with it?" Ruth wasn't exactly shy... Last edited by doug.goodman; 02-17-2021 at 08:36 PM. |

I believe the photo is from 1926. The photographer on the back is stamped with WC Persons and after some research I learned he was a photographer from St Louis during that time period who covered sports among many other things and sights thruout St. Louis
I have found other advertisements Chevy did later on with this picture attached |

You could have bought yourself a coach or coupe, or maybe even a sedan or Landau, for what your photo would bring today.

Like the photo. Lots of character. Appears to be original/type 1.
That ad likely raises its value and collector interest. |
