PSA counterfeit cards!!! Beware

Recently purchased 14 cards from a person in California that was advertising on Craigslist. Cards were supposed to be graded PSA cards. I resold some on Ebay and one was questioned by the buyer and returned. I sent that one along with 2 others from the lot to PSA for examination. They called on 1/7/07 to confirm that the cards as well as the PSA labels were fakes. All buyers of the cards I sold had been notified and have been refunded or are in the process of being refunded and are sending the cards back. My Ebay id is c.e.heafield and some of the cards can be viewed in my feedback. The FBI has been contacted and a case has been opened to try to nail this guy. As of January 2nd he had posted a new ad on New Yorks Craigslst for the same cards again. Cards I purchased were 1933 Goudey Ruth #53 PSA 5, T206 Cobb Re portrait PSA 6,t206 Cobb Bat on PSA 6,1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig #92 PSA6,1934 Goudey Gehrig PSA5, 1952 Bowman Mantle PSA 6, 1954 Aaron (2) Psa7 and one PSA 6,1955 Clemente PSA6, (3) 1956 mantle PSA 7. He had also offered a 1951 PSA4 Bowman Mantle,but we didn't come to terms. Cards looked alright to the naked eye,but under aloop the cards and labels looked questionable. Do not trust the cert.#'s, I checked them all on PSA's website prior to purchase and they all came up right. Who knows how many of these cards are out there,so look out.

I purchased a counterfeit 1952 Topps Mantle in a PSA holder. I called PSA before I made the purchase. I wanted to know if the card was stolen. The PSA rep said they don't have that information but make sure the Serial numbers match up. Of course they do. Why was I not informed about the scam. Asking questions should have raised a red flag with the PSA rep. I would have avoided the deal with any kind of warning. The president of PSA implied that I was an idiot and how dare I blame his rep. Really? Any suggestions as to what I should do?

I hope you bought it on eBay through PayPal? Or if not, did you buy it with a major credit card?

No, I paid cash. I thought I was doing the right thing by calling PSA before I made the deal. They told me to make sure the serial numbers match. I got no warning about Craigslist, tampering with PSA Cases Be Careful, I would have avoided the deal if given any information.

You're probably going to have a hard time gettng your money back, since you did the deal with cash. Just my opinion.

How did you acquire the card? Ebay, dealer, etc?

Can you post scans as well?

I'm new at this. Not able to post pictures at this time. I am more interested in why PSA would not give me more information when I called before purchasing this card. They had all the information I needed to know. Mike

It's possible that the serial number that you gave them is linked to an authentic PSA graded Mantle.

Without knowing all the facts, someone may have swapped out the authentic Mantle out of the PSA holder, and replaced it with a fake card.

You also may have a fake PSA slab and flip.

Where did you get the card, and how did you pay for it?

If you have a friend with a digital camera you can post pictures.
That would make it a lot easier for people here to help you.

As much as I dislike PSA, I'm not sure why you think any of this is their fault. There are probably many fakes out there with that same serial number.

I'm going to buy a used Chevy Tahoe. Let me call General Motors to see if it was reported stolen.

Use the same method you use when posting your cards on EBAY.

Nothing but learn a lesson. It's PSA for craps sake. Again I will say that they are the worst grading company out there. You really have to know your cards before buying a PSA slabbed card. A lot of repro's and badly graded cards out there by them. They should be voted off the island. Whooops wrong show
