This is by far the hardest pre-war Southern League set to come by. How many of these things do you guys think even exist? I haven't seen one up for sale in years. |

I have 1 card in my type set. They are impossible! I think Leon has cornered the market on them. Dan. |

Leon and Keith O...they're definitely rare. Personally I think there are bunches of them stashed away in personal collections...not seeing the light of day very often...but they're there. |

Dave at gfg.com had a find a few years ago, but I haven't seen more since. They seem like the sort of small regional issue that might suddenly appear in yard sales and estate auctions in NC or VA, but I feel like there are 30-40 out there total right now. What's weird, I think, is the variety of backs with so few different fronts, as if every one was stamped with a different back or something. |

I think there is at least one west coast collector that has a set of them. I know several board members have type cards from the set. Other than that I don't know of anyone that has very many. About three years ago there was a decent one on ebay and for some reason it didn't sell. It was from a very good ebayer and he did everything right too...but it didn't sell. I ended up giving a little more than 1k for it which I thought was a bargain.... |

if i remember correctly, a couple years ago there was a lot of about 8 beater cards on ebay of which there were a few e222 cards in there. i believe 3 or 4 of the cards were e222 awa or awh caramels. at the time i remember thinking the auction went for a ton of $, but i am sure the buyer knew exaclty what he was doing and made out great. that was the first time i had ever seen one. |

Dave Levin was the buyer. I think pictures of the E222s are still on his website. Two of the cards graded SGC 10 and two graded SGC 30. |

I remember watching the lot sit around $3k until the last minute and refreshing to watch the price jump up to the $12k Dave paid. |

I tried to purchase the cards from the seller thru an Ebay store in Lynch- burg. I drove there because I was concerned that the T206s were being damaged by removing them from an album. Indeed, the T206s (about 20 with a green Cobb) looked to have been recently removed from the album. All had paper loss with an area that was extremely light colored and fresh looking. While there, I noticed 4 odd looking minor leaguers (the awhs and awhs). Not knowing what they were, I figured they were at least worth a couple of hunderd apiece. The owner very seriously considered my offer which was about $10,000.00 less than what he eventually got for them. If I had only known.... |

In 1999 I auctioned a Smith, Lynchburg that I graded VG-EX. It was the only one I ever had. I just checked the price and it sold for $656. Pretty funny. |

I think the "Pat" above is who I bought one of my first, if not the first, AWH from. I think I bought about 200 cards from you about 7-8 yrs ago. It was after I had won the E221 on ebay from you. I paid $200 for that AWH and it now resides in a 30 holder.....Is that you Pat, that bought the type card collection from an older gentleman and they were all in binders? If I remember correctly you owned an antique store too and your wife's name begins with a "C" (I don't divulge family info in public)? Or maybe I am losing it? |

Jeff- I bet the Smith, Lynchburg from Mark's list was the same one I had...but it looks like I overgraded it. |

Jeff....Thanks for posting one of the pages from my old catalog. Most of those cards were placed in advanced collections (& probably still there). I would however, be happy to buy back any of them if the customer is dissatisfied. |
