Wow, that's a great item. I'd love to see the assembled piece. I presume the players in red socks are the Boston Beaneaters (formerly the Red Stockings) of the National League. If they are, that's quite a collection of stars, including Kid Nichols, Billy Hamilton, Jimmy Collins (all HOFers) and the ill-fated Marty Bergen ...

If it were mine....

I would make a copy of it onto thick paper - and then (using the copy) try to assemble it.

Looks like too much fun not to play with.

I have some serious doubts about whether players 8 and 11 would actually be able to remain upright. Looks like the same shoddy engineering the 1890s are famous for.

I guess I'm thinking this is incomplete because of the #11 tab being cut off and it looks like there should be something above the umpire at the top edge.

I'd also like to find page 32 with the instructions.

Joe, great idea about making copies! I'll see what I can do and maybe I'll get some extras for anyone interested.

No, I've long wondered about that myself. We of course know the date of the issue as April 19, 1896. The paper should be available (at least in microfilm) from the Boston Public Library but I have never researched. It would be an interesting discovery. It is my understanding that a second "platform" supplement was also distributed in which all the of tabs fit. A description of such a piece might also be printed in the same issue of the Globe (or perhaps an issued either just before or after). Please let us know if you find any further info. --Lyman
