I think the insert I have is incomplete. Anyone have a complete one to show? Dimensions are approx. 7.5" x 10" |

Wow, that's a great item. I'd love to see the assembled piece. I presume the players in red socks are the Boston Beaneaters (formerly the Red Stockings) of the National League. If they are, that's quite a collection of stars, including Kid Nichols, Billy Hamilton, Jimmy Collins (all HOFers) and the ill-fated Marty Bergen ... |

It looks like it is complete. There is the batter, two baserunners and the team in the field. |

I have some serious doubts about whether players 8 and 11 would actually be able to remain upright. Looks like the same shoddy engineering the 1890s are famous for. |

I guess I'm thinking this is incomplete because of the #11 tab being cut off and it looks like there should be something above the umpire at the top edge. |

Rick, your Boston Globe Supplement appears complete although slightly trimmed. We have added a page about the supplement to the Old Cardboard website at: |

No, I've long wondered about that myself. We of course know the date of the issue as April 19, 1896. The paper should be available (at least in microfilm) from the Boston Public Library but I have never researched. It would be an interesting discovery. It is my understanding that a second "platform" supplement was also distributed in which all the of tabs fit. A description of such a piece might also be printed in the same issue of the Globe (or perhaps an issued either just before or after). Please let us know if you find any further info. --Lyman |
