| O/T - "Cagers"

Posted By: ramram Picked up what I thought was an intersting image recently. For those that may have wondered where the term "cagers" came from - this is a good example. Basketball in the early 1900's was often played in the local Armory. Fence "cages" were built around the court and there was no out-of-bounds. As you can probably tell from this photo, the game became VERY phycical. |

| O/T - "Cagers"

Posted By: davidcycleback Linguistic factoid of the day. I had long heard basketballers called cagers and never even thought about how the term came about. I suppose a net minder is someone who thinks about fishing. And an offensive lineman was a vulgar road painter. |
