Default 1955 Ted Williams 1/1

I just picked up this card and there isn’t a lot of info out there on what this card might be worth? It says 1/1 but not sure what that means.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Interesting for sure. Can you please share a picture of the back of the card?

Here you go. It’s a real 1955 card, just not sure why it’s a 1/1. Maybe EX condition.

Thanks

It looks like it may have been a redemption card from the 2019 Topps Update set. Nice pick-up for sure!

I'm guessing the 1/1 refers to the card being an insert, likely a redemption.

Heritage inserts vintage stamped cards as box toppers on occasion.

In 2019 Topps included redemptions for 150 popular cards throughout history to celebrate MLB’s 150th Anniversary. The checklist wasn’t released to my knowledge, but every redemption I’ve seen is a Topps card. Each card is slabbed by BGS and noted as 1/1. Redemptions were something like 1:90,000 packs. They usually carry a premium because of the rarity, but not a crazy amount. Just a guess, but maybe $600-$800 for this one. I think part of the reason they aren’t super popular is that cards were chosen seemingly at random while the player had much better Topps issues or RC’s to insert. So far I’ve seen.

1953 Feller
1955 Williams
1956 Kaline
1958 Banks AS
1960 Koufax
1982 Ripken
1986 Bo Jackson
2017 Aaron Judge

Thank you, this is super helpful. I have seen a few of the other cards, like the Feller, I just didn’t know how they were distributed. So you’re estimating a $600-$800 premium over what a normal 55 Williams in this condition would go for?

How does Beckett know it's a redemption card and not just an ordinary 55 Topps? Or did the redemption card get you the slabbed card?

This exact card sold on eBay in December for $400. It's just a regular issue 1955 card repackaged by Topps in 2019. PSA 4's sell in the $400 range. I'd say this card is maybe worth that. If someone really wants it...it's been relisted on eBay for $9k.

Yeah, not sure why anyone would pay much of a premium for it.

Also, as someone else asked.. how does Beckett know it's a 1/1? I guess you submit it with some proof

Topps sent it to them directly to declare it a 1/1 to give out for the redemption.

1/1 what? There's nothing special about this card. It is like any other 1955 Topps Ted Williams.

Guys, there was a Topps product that carried redemptions for different cards on their Top 150 list. The person who pulled the redemption card for Ted Williams would have received this slabbed card in return. The 1/1 refers to the fact that it was the card that was redeemed from the product. This was actually a pretty elegant way to do this promotion because the original card is preserved and the only stamping or notation is on the flip and not on the card itself.

There are two versions of that card, so does that make it a 1 of 1 of 2 ?
