Here is the description given to me from the seller (assumingly from the original auction)
1924 snapshot featuring six members of the Washington Senators posing with their young children. Depicted from left to right are pitcher George Mogridge, Walter Johnson, Joe Judge, John Martina, Roger Peckinpaugh and Pinky Hargrave. It comes from Johnson's personal snapshot album, featuring the children of the great pitcher and his teammates (the boys outfitted in miniature Senators uniforms) and the handwritten notations on the reverse written in order by Hazel Johnson (Walter's wife). You almost never see candid shots of so many great players in one photo. This is a beautiful photo in hand. Much nicer than I can photograph. Size is about 4x5 Price is $SOLD shipped priority. I will hear out possible offers so please feel free to pm me. However a simple take will override ongoing negotiations. Ppff or check only please. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have always thought this was as much a baseball card set as anything else in the hobby. They are just as much "cards" as the Frederick Photos for example. If more had been known about the issue in the 1980's to 1990's when the Standard Catalog was being produced and was liberal about what was being put into the book, they would be highly collected rare "baseball cards" today.
I believe they were only distributed to players and executives as well as a few newspapers etc., which would point to maybe 100 sets being made at the time with perhaps 10-20 or so known examples of each player existing today. Just a theory but I have been sort of studying the photos/cards for about ten years. They are rare and undervalued in my opinion, GLWS Rhys

I am hoping Al from LOTG will chime in as it was last sold publicly a few years ago from one of his auctions.
"Charming 1924 snapshot featuring six members of the 1924 Washington Senators posing with their young children. Depicted from left to right are pitcher George Mogridge Walter Johnson first baseman Joe Judge pitcher John Martina shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh and catcher Pinky Hargrave. Some age-relating soiling are the only critical condition issues with a piece like that aside from some mild wear and slight corner creasing however it is not the condition of the piece that makes this so highly desirable - it's the fact that it comes from Johnson's personal snapshots featuring the children of the great pitcher and his teammates (the boys outfitted in miniature Senators uniforms) and the handwritten notations on the reverse written by Hazel Johnson (Walter's wife)."-LOTG Fall 2016

Lucas, that is a very nice 1924 photo of Senators players with their kids. GLWS.
Many years ago, I got the understanding (I can't remember from whom or where) that there were 30 photos similar to yours (in size and with the same back stamping) issued by National Photo of Washington, DC, in this "set" that Rhys refers to. But, I don't think your photo was included in this "set," and here is why I say this: - I have 29 of these photos, which I got in a Legendary auction back in 2011, but your photo is not 1 of the 29. - My "set" is missing the photo of Ossie Bluege, which I have seen and would very much like to acquire. - 28 of these 30 photos appear in the Washington version of the 1924 WS program (also published by National Photo), which is not much more than a collection of pictures of the players and team officials with scorecards for the Senators and Giants on the inside front and back covers, respectively. There are no narratives about the players, no player statistics, etc. in this WS program. The 2 photos that don't appear in the 1924 WS program are, (1) a third photo of player-manager Bucky Harris, and (2) a photo of Wid Matthews who was reacquired from Sacramento (PCL) on Sept. 29, 1924, but was not included on the WS roster. - Your photo is not included in the 1924 WS program. Hope this info is helpful. Below is the photo of Earl McNeely, who knocked in the winning run in the 12th inning of Game 7, that is in this 30-photo "set." Val

This now confuses me even more! 😆. The same photo dimensions and stamp on the back, but not in the set. Very mysterious indeed.

Up. Make me an offer if you're interested. Read some of these comments. Not a piece you may ever see again.

ValKehl, in your opinion, does it not being in the WS program make it more or less desirable to the masses? I think it’s amazing either way! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Good question. I'm thinking this photo was likely produced in lesser quantity than the photos in the 30-photo set. Hence, this photo could be more valuable. On the other hand, I think individual player photos tend to be more valuable than group photos.
