This card is currently up for auction in ML
https://memorylaneinc.com/site/bids/...e?itemid=75955 At first I thought it was a reholder, but it is a new grade with SGC. Are they more lenient with Goudeys? There is a lot of print on the front to warrant a 8.5 but is that okay for this high grade? |

It could be a reholder from an earlier grade, much as one sometimes sees with PSA, although with PSA you can often tell by the cert numbers. SGC will reassign a new one.

I see they featured 153 lots in their auction and then in lot 154 this card isn’t featured? https://memorylaneinc.com/site/bids/...e?itemid=76053

I wouldn't have pegged it at an 8.5, but somebody did and now the "perception" is there.
We can debate all day whether or not it is an 8.5, but the fact is that it's in an 8.5 slab, therefore it is an 8.5 and it doesn't matter what people see, think and believe. Baaaaaahhhhh, goes the sheep...

You wonder what the 2 PSA 9s look like.

I’m shocked Memory Lane doesn’t mention those slopes in their three paragraphs of nauseating hyperbolic hype for the card. I wonder why, considering that we’ve all learned that there is not a stigma against trimmed cards and it wouldn’t hurt the value.

Perfect example of the kind of pre-war card that scares me. I just don't trust those edges to be honest, someone will and pay big money for the card though.

I remember years back someone posted a group of the four Cobbs in PSA 8. Amid the inevitable oohs and ahs and wow just wows, a number of us wondered if cards that noticeably short were really original.

Is there a registry for SGC cards now?
I suspect most of the PSA registry acolytes would be wary about trying to cross this one over. So while the registry is a factor for a lot of high graded pieces, I’m not sure the same holds true for pieces in SGC holders, unless the buyer has some expectation that they can successfully cross it.

You’re not the only one who sees that. It looks poorly trimmed, at that.

Think PSA = Heroin and SGC (and other TPGs) = methadone. One way or other someone will be able to get a fix, maybe just not the preferred fix.

Thanks. My mistake not clicking the new link midway through. I just lazily assumed it was the same as from the OP.
