Anyone seen similar ones? Thoughts on value?

I owned a similar machine for many years. It is a Topps Vending machine. Ment to be filled with vending boxes.
The Value has 2 components. First the machine itself is. Dose it function? ( I used to keep it filled with cards, and keep nickels on the top). Then general condition. The stand is often damaged or missing ( like this one) also looks like rust has set in. And parts are missing. The second component is the display card. Mine was from 1959 ( no I didn't keep 59's in it, more like 79's) one compartment was baseball one Western Stars and can't remember 3rd. Your card looks like a McHale's Navey that has some baseball taped on. I don't think the tape stains can be cleaned completely. I think given shape of both components the price is more than I would pay. Gonna be a labor of love to restore completely. But if you want it just as a display, simple sanding and paint might make it look pretty nice. And Cleaned up the McHale Navy card should look sharp. But I think, in top condition a topps vending machine with stand and a decent back card is worth $400-$600. I sold mine about 10 years ago I think for $350. So I have allowed for fact that Market might have changed. Hope this helps. |

In that condition, I think $75-100 would be fair. It's a neat item, though, and as Jonathan noted, the McHale's Navy back is pretty interesting.

At my age now, I need to sell things and downsize. However, if I were in my 30's to 40's, I would not hesitate to buy it. Probably even at the $150.00 tagged price.

Heavy red metal with thick glass..... looks like the front piece from one of these machines. I bought it in Ohio around 40 years ago without the cards which I added back then just guessing what year it could be. Cards werent worth much back then, probably a lot more now LOL

Hey thanks….. you may be on to something there although the slots would only fit cards from 1957 and up at least baseball ones …. I remember as a kid actually buying Mars Attacks from a vending machine at the Super Giant near my house in Maryland….. still have them but they didn’t stay “mint” …..

I have way too much stuff, and I sold my Topps collection years ago, but if I saw that somewhere I wouldn't be able to get to the cash register fast enough to ask them to please take my $150.

Found a picture of my old vending machine. Notice mine says 6 cards for a nickle vs Rockey's card which is 7 cards for a nickle. You can see from picture that it is still attached to the original stand and it was quite heavy. I keep checking up on this thread to see if someone brings this labor of love home.

I own 4 or 5 vending machines. In my opinion ( for what it’s worth) I think that has great value at 150. I would be interested in it if your looking to flip it.

Is it true the Oak vendors didn't come out until 1956? I've read that several times. I've never seen one with cards earlier than '56.

I've got a few machines, the shipping can often run almost as much as the machine. I wouldn't hesitate for a second on this one at that price if I could carry it out and not pay for shipping.

Yes they were manufactured in 1956. I have owned several of these Premiere Gumball Card Machines and just thought the 1955 Topps would look good. Jerry Sage |
