1932. The few others I've seen are during the same early 30's time period. Mrs. Cobb died in 1936, shortly after Cobb was elected to the HOF.

Last year, these supposed Ty Cobb dentures were listed by Goldin Auctions, similarly referencing that the dentures had been displayed at the Ty Cobb Museum in Royston, GA. The Museum did display these for a time, but no longer believes that they are authentic. In fact, while they were on display we contacted a forensic dentist who offered to authenticate them based on DNA matching with one of Ty Cobb's grandchildren. We recommended that the owner do this test. To our knowledge, the owner never took this step to authenticate, and the Museum shortly thereafter removed them from display and returned them. When we discovered the dentures listed last year, the Museum formally notified Goldin Auctions and asked that they not reference the Ty Cobb Museum in the description because that could imply a level of authenticity to prospective bidders. Golden dropped the item from the auction after receiving the Museum's request. Note that the Museum did not ask that the dentures be removed from the auction, only that the reference to the Ty Cobb Museum in the description be removed because it implied a level of authenticity that we did not want to give. Attached is a copy of last year's letter to Goldin Auctions. We will be sending a similar letter to SCP Auctions.

I applaud your Museum in being proactive in this matter.

I was actually going to make a tongue-in-cheek comment to having these tested for a DNA match (already knowing the answer) but opted against being bothered. It's wonderful to hear that you actually went so far as to suggest it yourselves!

Of course, those on the other side of the argument would ask how any DNA could have survived the supposed alcohol soaking while in the hospital! Its antiseptic properties would have killed it all off!

+1 Agree the Museum did the right thing. Ideally the DNA test would be done if possible to authenticate it.
Regardless this info makes you pause and I would not want to bid on something that might not be as described (Regardless I am not a bidder)

Wow. I learned a lot from reading that. It was well written and thought out. The photos and other documents were really good.

Definitely makes this even more suspicious (fyi the dentures were mentioned on page 42 but not any story about it)
So you would have to be suspicious of anything coming from them since other items were faked and frauds. Amazing the diary story and displayed at The Hall of Fame Museum without them doing more due diligence

And it looks like Peter Nash wrote the introduction. There isn't a lesser credible person I know of, although some of what he says is probably true. As Mike O'Keefe once told me, to paraphrase, 1/3 is true, 1/3 is false and 1/3 is completely made up. Pick and choose.

That said, I have no reason to believe The Ty Cobb Museum isn't 100% credible.

SCP Auctions did modify their description of the dentures to remove reference to Ty Cobb Museum as it requested. But, unlike Goldin Auctions last year, they did not remove the dentures from the auction. Instead, they put up the receipt of loan that the owner got from the Cooperstown Hall of Fame Museum as proof of provenance.

Just took the time to read the whole book. Incredibly both interesting and disturbing. Also a reminder when enough people start telling the same story, it becomes more credible despite it being at complete odds with the facts (which few people take the time to look for).

SHAME on SCP auctions for not at least pulling the lot till they could research it further and draw their own conclusion. As always $$$ trumps all.

I was getting responses within the hour from Dillon Kohler saying he was sorry the sizes weren't posted and he provided them to me on each piece I had inquired about. I checked the fantasy Gehrig Ken Wel piece over the next couple of days to see if they were going to at least let viewers know this is a fantasy piece as opposed to their 1930s notation only. My email to tell Dillon it was not authentic and only a fantasy piece, as opposed to a reproduction(with net54 link where this was discussed) was met with crickets.
