I was bidding on a T205 Tom Jones and it slipped my mind to set a high bid snipe. The unique fact of the card is that it has a green saturation to it that makes Tom Jones looks as though he has a severe case of seasickness. Did anyone here end up buying this card or know where it’s at?

Yep. Super common issue with all T cards.

Here's a larger photo from the ebay auction. I did not see the auction until you pointed it out. Looks like a nice card. Not sure why his face looks green. Here's a Leever I have with a pink background.

I have a very similar Tom Jones that could be from the same sheet. Seems like some sort of ink defect/switcheroo.
Not only does the face have that green-grey coloring, but so does the nameplate. Other print defects are the same, like the grey on the 3rd-base line, the broken line on the inside of 3rd base, and prominent dots above his left eye and between his head and 1st base. Also, they have very similar diamond cuts. Scans below show my card, along with closeups of his face and of the nameplace (compared to a "normal" Jones).

That's amazing, Michael. The one you have has to be from the same sheet. I felt bad that I got their jokes because it made me feel old...

I would say they're from the same plate but not the same sheet.

Pat, can you explain further? I've seen T205's that are o/c with different players, and one's with the same player. I don't know much about the printing process and assumed a sheet was made with an extra dose of green ink. Did they make one sheet at a time and check the quality, or run multiple sheets before looking at the product? Just wondering how many cards were thrown away over the years. I thought a plate was separate from the inking process?

Hi Rob, the one that Michael posted and the one on ebay have the same
stray print marks that would have come from the same plates so they were likely in the same sheet position but not on the same sheets but they may have been printed back to back or pretty close to the same time. Jones T205 2.jpg Here's another jones from the same plate that doesn't have the extra green. Jones T205.jpg |

Thanks, Pat. I see what you are saying now. It makes me wonder about the BODA examples on blowout that say cards are the same card, when they could be different cards from the same plate. BTW, great card, Adam.

Awesome info guys. I was hoping this was part of a sheet because multiples would have been made. Apparently several sheets were oversaturated with the green. Great job on pointing out the plate issues.
I think this is always the best part of prewar. We just don't know enough because records weren't kept but the overall knowledge of this board answers a lot of questions about printing and issues.
