It always helps and its needed to hold the cards and feel them! I like the photos of the Ruth Goudey. Pretty severe and a bit uneven on top wear which could be an area of concern. SGC 1 or Authentic is my best guess. I'd have to hold it, smell it, but with these photos, I like the Ruth 1933. I'd like to see the back of the 4 in one. Peace, Mike PS That 1933 Ruth was loved, played with, enjoyed which is pretty cool. even if someone was able to replicate that look, it took alot of effort. Always good to see ink residue on back from wet transfer (which this card does not have) but I like it, nonetheless! Last edited by vthobby; 04-13-2020 at 04:03 PM. |

I was concerned about the white paper wear loss in the middle of the card, and the brown paper wear loss on the edges.
The 4 on 1 was deeply disturbing.

I agree but that is where holding the card and feeling it for thickness comes into play, thickness, feel, vintage stock, smell etc.... you know what I mean hopefully? After years of handling rare cards and some not so rare , you get a feel for these things.
I think the paper loss are layers you are seeing and some staining here and there front and back. The 4 in one troubles me a bit which of course then casts a bit of doubt on the 1933 Ruth. I still like the 1933 albeit , I'd need to feel it. Peace, Mike PS I'm a feeler not a healer! ![]() Last edited by vthobby; 04-13-2020 at 04:10 PM. |

What worries me about the '33 is that where the paper hasn't been damaged on the reverse it appears almost shiny which is just wrong. Though if it is a fake it's the best quality printing I've ever seen on the back. Especially the tiny Goudey logo in the lower right. But with no wet sheet transfer I'd definitely have to see it in person before spending any money on it.

Thanks Scott, good points and I agree on the overall look that if it is fake, its a helleva fake. As noted, I would also need to feel it and see it before buying.
