"When the first representation of this exceedingly rare bottle hit the auction block in 1999 it was touted as the only known example, and realized over $5,000. The tremendous response sent collectors scrambling to find another specimen, and sure enough, a second and third were located. Only a handful of others have come to market since.
Offered here is a bottle from the Baltimore tavern that once stood on the current site of Camden Yards' center field, where the Babe tended bar as a young man during the off-seasons of his Boston Red Sox years. The ancient glass still holds the residue of father Ruth's brew, and bears the lettering "Staten Island Bottling Company, George Ruth's Prop'r, Trademark Registered, Baltimore, MD. It's a piece sure to thrill the cultured Ruth collector who appreciates the Babe's early Baltimore history, and the difficult relationship he had with his father that caused him to spend his formative years at St. Mary's Industrial School rather than in the home of his parents." There is however debate as to whether these examples were actually from George Ruth's Tavern or another George Ruth from that time frame, none-the-less a tremendous conversation piece at the fraction of major auction houses prices. And one still sold at Heritage auction in 2005 for $1553.50 !!!!!!!! even with that debate disclaimer. https://sports.ha.com/itm/baseball/u...ription-071515 A NEAT & AMAZING ADDITION TO ANY RUTH OR BASEBALL MEMORABILIA COLLECTION & QUITE THE CONVERSATION PIECE! No cracks or chipping! (picture of Ruth and his Father at their bar not included) $275 or best offer Last edited by Shoeless Moe; 11-22-2019 at 04:01 PM. |

That bottle absolutely isn't connected to Ruth's father in any way. Here is some pretty definitive information on the bottle.

Which is 10x more than that bottle is worth if you don't add the name "Babe Ruth" to the listing. I think it would be fair to give the buyer a heads up and see if they're happy with it.

To my way of thinking, that's as much of a "heads up" as a seller needs to give. It obviously was enough to stop you from buying the bottle, and myself also (after a bit more research), although even after said research I was still tempted due to the "conversation piece" aspect. If this bottle can be had for $27.50 somewhere else, the buyer had plenty of warning to have attempted to find it. That's what google is for. Doug "but what do I know?" Goodman |

I agree. I would of been interested in this bottle as well but was a little late to the party. I think it’s a great item that you don’t see to often. |

The proof that the bottle in unequivocally not connected to Babe Ruth ends with the sentence that begins "Does it make an interesting story...? Yes" That "yes" is worth $275 to the buyer, and pretty nearly to me, also. Doug "I agree to disagree with myself every day" Goodman Last edited by doug.goodman; 11-25-2019 at 03:50 PM. |

The fact that the seller quotes a $5000 sale for the genuine item and then offers his for sale for $275 should put a reasonable person on notice that it’s not the real deal.
