One of my favorite Singers in the late 1970's to early 1980's was Debbie Harry. Every time I hear her songs, I have flash-backs to my early BB card collecting days (when I returned to the hobby). Perhaps, all this "nasty" rhetoric on Net54 regarding card trimming, TPG's, bad grading practices, etc., etc. can be dispensed with and we can return to more meaningful conversations related to BB card collecting on Net54. Thanks guys, TED Z T206 Reference . Last edited by tedzan; 09-02-2019 at 02:54 PM. |

Ted...I too love Blondie...too much consternation? Maybe?
But a return to the status quo and ceasing to discuss these issues will not be/IS not good for the hobby. |

Name the song. "I said don't stop, do punk rock."

Debbie Harry was super hawt, and I'll listen to Blondie any day, every day, but I can't think of a more "meaningful conversation" at this moment than the massive fraud that's been going on for decades now.

Hi Dan ."but I can't think of a more "meaningful conversation" at this moment than the massive fraud that's been going on for decades now." ..this moment !..... ? ? It's been going on for decades, and many in this hobby have known this. However, for a good number of us in this hobby, who don't live (or die) by the graded-card-syndrome, this crisis is NOT traumatic. We just keep-on collecting....all our favorite BB players from our favorite sets. TED Z T206 Reference . Last edited by tedzan; 09-02-2019 at 02:50 PM. Reason: Corrected typo. |

Just saw her open for Elvis Costello at a Winery Concert...
Still sounded good, but never played "One Way or Another". Maybe they're just sick of performing that song, but it would have made for a pretty good encore. |

You and a bunch of us at a certain age.
I was going with a really cute blonde gal at the time that kinda looked like DH. She turned out to be crazy as a loon. There is a chart for that. "Only a dude is below a 4 Crazy." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbpGkrViOcE Watch to the end and you'll see the chart for men.

I met Blondie back in the day in my old stomping grounds in Jersey City.
Her lead guitar player Frank Infante lived around the corner from me and invited her to come and have drinks in our local bar . She arrived in a Limo and only stayed a few minutes. She looked even better in person. John P |

Any Grand Theft Auto fans out there? Hell, it was a long time ago and it was probably, maybe, GTA 3(?), but her song "Rush Rush" just got stuck in your head as you were driving around causing havoc. It was seemingly always emanating from the car speakers.
"Rush rush, got the yeyo? Buzz buzz, gimme yeyo Rush rush, got the yeyo? Yo yo, no no yeyo"

I was at the Westbury Music Fair (LI, NY) in the early 1970's, when the original group put on a tremendous performance. Afterwards, Chicago treated us to several encore's at the end of the concert responding to the audience's many requests. Saw Chicago again in 1993 at the Valley Forge Music Fair. They weren't quite the original group; however, their Jazz-Rock sound was still sensational. Here's a "toughie", Peter....what's your favorite Chicago song ? TED Z T206 Reference . |

Debbie and Stevie both rock, but do they have a baseball card like Joan Jett? She's an all-time favorite, and an Orioles diehard.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Debbie Harry a few times while she was in Blondie and when she was performing with the Jazz Passengers. My favorite songs by the band are their cover of the Randy and the Rainbows song 'Denise' and the comeback hit 'Maria'.

Speaking about favorite Chicago songs....
"Saturday In The Park" is certainly one of their great songs. I remember when I first heard it, it was exactly 47 years ago this month. It reminded us of our many visits to Central Park in NYC. I guess my favorite song has to be...."Does Anyone Really Know What Time It Is ?"....since it's the first song of theirs that I heard (50 years ago this Summer....WOW !) Followed by...."25 or 6 to 4"...."Beginnings"...."Colour My World"...."Make Me Smile" (not necessarily in that order). Thanks guys for all your inputs to this thread, it's been quite interesting and fun.. TED Z T206 Reference . |

Never hear it played much, but the jam called Get Away after Hard to Say I'm Sorry (which is a pretty cheesy Peter Cetera 80s tune) is pretty good, especially live.

I bought a 45 copy of Heart of Glass when I was a kid. For a while the only records I had were Blondie and Styx Renegade.
I saw the Cetera Chicago at the Houston Rodeo at the Astrodome in the early 80's. Great concert. CCR has always been one of my favorite bands. Proud Mary is my favorite CCR song. I also think Jim and John are probably related. Jim was featured in many 19th century issues...

Jim
You may be right, and then, Rob may be right. In any event, I suggested a possible John / Jim connection simply due to their common names and birthplace ![]() Let's not take this too serious....for with this thread, I'm just trying to lighten up the ongoing mood on this forum this past month regarding the TPG fiasco(s). I'm married to an Irish gal. And I have noticed with the Irish that it's not unusual for them to slightly modify the spelling of their surnames (especially vowels). TED Z T206 Reference . |
