A little, short back story. Earlier this year, I decided to sell all of my modern stuff minus my couple of PCs and move strictly into vintage. Have to say one of the best moves I've made.
Since then I've picked up random lots of 50s-70s and have been buying the lots by year. Yesterday, I went to an LCS and decided to trade some of my extra 1975 Topps stars (I had about 400 different cards for the set before deciding just to buy a complete set and trade/sell the ones I had). In doing so, I picked up a few other vintage cards. This was one of the pickups, and it's my very first T card. I think it's a T205. I'm very, very new to the whole T thing, but am wanting to learn more. I know this isn't in the best shape, but it's still a T card. Also, I don't know what the difference is, but this is a Sovereign back. In looking on eBay, I didn't find any Sovereign, only Polar Bear backs. So not really sure of the difference. But I am sure I really, really like it and will probably start picking up a few others. So here it is... ![]() ![]() |

The best set !
With apologies to those who prefer the white bordered , more common T206 cards...you've started the Mini-Monster! There are a lot of T205 fans on this board, a very knowledgeable bunch who will surely assist in any of your questions. I've completed the base set (quite a few years ago) and have been picking away at upgrades, Cycle backs, variations or even just more quantity to eventually start a second set. I have got a lot of them graded here : http://www.sgccard.com/usersetcompos...usersetid=3598 Your Soveriegn back is one of the subsets that one particular pal collects (Hi Geno ![]() The set, similar to T206 could be collected many different ways. I just love the set with its bio/stat back, ornate designs on the AL cards, more standard portraits on the NL cards and the super cool ML cards. My advice...read all you can read about them and decide your direction. It's not a very tough set to get 90% of the way, but the last 10% can be expensive depending on your condition requirements. Welcome to the Gold Side!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and help. I will be sure to check those links out. Im not planning on doing the set. I just want to add a few T cards to my collection. My next set will be in the 50s-early 70s.
But I've been watching the Ken Burns baseball series and am learning a lot about the early years of baseball. So it's kind of peaked my interest to get a few early cards. |

Congrats!
I am doing the same thing, getting rid of my (non-PC) modern and acquiring mostly vintage. I picked up my first two T206s at a show today. They are certainly "well loved," but it is history I can hold and both cost me $10 total.

Welcome to the madness. I recently made the dive into pre-war myself, focusing on a subset of T206s. If you're anything like me, you'll love poring over all the info found on this site and other sites linked within. Best of luck with everything and great start!

So probably shouldnt have read this thread as I appear to be developing an itch. I have always been a "pre war" guy but that is the Vietnam War.
I'm sure most of you have seen this but I found this which seems like a good starting point. http://www.t205.org/

I thought they looked great!! (what was there and left of them). They are survivors. You should scan them and post them here. I assure you there are a lot of members who collect cards exactly like that.
As for the gold borders, I have always said T205s are some of the best looking cards in the hobby. Eventually I will get another Cobb....one of my all time fave cards.
