I was talking to a NET54-er and he has been to an amazing list of ballparks in general and it got me thinking about parks I have been to that no longer exist, just curious if we have any old timers here who have been to others.
I saw games at: -County Stadium Milwaukee -Three Rivers in Pitt -Riverfront - Cincy - saw Bench, Foster and Perez all hit home runs and I want to say they went back to back to back - was a die hard Big Red Machine fan so that was awesome. -Old Comiskey Park - White Sox, saw many games there - miss the trofts : ) |

Metrodome in Minneapolis. I really miss that place. It was the closest place for me to watch a game, a short 600 mile round trip. I could buy tickets to any game and I knew it was going to get played and it would the 70 degrees and beautiful.

With so many new ballparks that have opened in recent years, and with at least one more to open in the near future (Atlanta in 2017), you don't have to be an "old timer" to have attended a game in a park that no longer stands.

Metrodome Milwaukee County I also will throw in: Mile High (though I didn't see the Rockies play there - just the Broncos a couple times) and the old Boston Garden (because I also got to walk out on the parquet.) Oh yeah, McNichols Arena in Denver to see the Avs play. Last edited by CamaroCPA; 04-26-2015 at 05:28 AM. |

Wait....didn't they just build one in Atlanta 20 years ago? A perfect example of why having the Olympics in your city is such a disaster.

The stadium still stands, still in use, only re-named the "Q," for Qualcomm, who paid $18M for naming rights in 1998. It is now the home of the Dolts and SDSU Aztecs football teams.

Polo Grounds (Giants and Mets) As I remember the club house was behind CF. When a pitcher got pulled, he did not walk to the dugout but all the way to CF and out through a gate.
The Met in Minneapolis. I recall they had some sort of marker in the LF bleachers where one of Killebrew's HRs landed. Same thing in Memorial Stadium with a marker for a Frank Robinson HR. My all-time favorite for "enter at your own risk" was Municipal Stadium in KC. I sat in the upper deck. They had wooden seats. ALL the seats in the upper deck had splinters. I remember the seat in the row directly in front of me had an up-turned splinter about eight inches in length. If you needed some rectal surgery, it would be your seat of choice. |

1. Candlestick Park.......home of my Giants.....attended there with my Grandfather from boyhood in the mid-1960's to 1994 (last game with Grandfather and my son together in 1993 on a trip out to visit him.)
2. Three Rivers Stadium......1992 National League Championship Series Was working in Gettysburg,PA and was able to snag a ticket. Saw future Giant Barry Bonds play in person for the first time and my former high school history student Pitcher Doug Drabek. Then drove to Cooperstown the next day to spend the weekend at the Hall. 3. Astrodome.......moved to Texas in 1972.....saw many a game at the old "coldest foam in the dome". I have a great collection of photos , programs, etc and wonderful memories of these parks. Great thread! Mike |

1. Arlington Stadium - saw a ton of games there, especially in the 1970s prior to the addition of the upper deck behind home plate. Nothing really special about it other than it was hot and you went there to watch BASEBALL, not be entertained with loud music between innings and for batter walk-ups, dot races, etc.
2. Jack Murphy Stadium - still there, but fully enclosed. I got to see games in it when the right field area was open, and the ambience was better for baseball. I thought it one of the nicer post-1965 "donut" or semi-donut stadiums 3. Astrodome - saw a lot of SWC Houston football in there, but only two baseball games, and both were very weird indoors, from the crack of the bat to the lighting, etc. Not my favorite place by any means. 4. LaGrave Field/Ft. Worth - former home of the now defunct Ft. Worth Cats minor league team. Really nice baseball ambience and historical site as well, built on the same footprint as the old LaGrave field, complete with the same dugouts (now field level suites), etc. Shame that the team went bankrupt and the stadium may be bulldozed for the sake of "progress." |
