What is your favorite set of the 1960s?

[1963Topps Set]

Mine is obviously the 1963 Topps set. It is my birth year set. 576 very colorful cards. The backs are easy to read and offer complete stats. All the stars are here and we have Musial one last time. Koufax in his break out year, and Maris looking down in the dumps after breaking a hallowed record. The Rose rookie is the most powerful of the decade. I just don't like the four circle rookie cards. But I can live with that! Overall and incredible set and simply stunning! I love it!

1967 hands down, followed by 1969 as a distant 2nd. If all of the series in 1969 were as gorgeous as the first, it might almost overtake 1967 in my heart, but the photography had an astounding drop-off as the year progressed. Oh well.....

1965. Pictures are clean and love the banner on the front. Set includes some good RCs (Morgan, Carlton, Niekro) as well as great subsets (leaders, World Series cards). I also really like the Aaron, Mantle, and Clemente cards.

[1963Topps Set]

The 1969 Topps set is my least favorite of the decade. All of the team names are the same color - yellow and there is really no thought to the design of the cards. I really don't like there are no team cards and too many hatless player photos. On the plus side, it is an easy to set to put together. No high number problems and if you have Mantle / Jackson / Ryan, there is the core value of the set.

1969. Love the clean design and large photos. Plus lots of stars of the seventies in early cards. My favorite Clemente and killebrew cards.

I love the 60's sets. If I had to pick a favorite I would say 1963, very colorful and almost HD quality photos for the time. But...

1961 is beautiful with it's unique painting/photo cards and a simple clean design
1962 is a gorgeous set in mint condition
1964 isn't as popular but it's the year I really started collecting as a kid
1965 didn't used to love it but it's really a classic design
1966 same as 1965
1967 drop dead beautiful, very little to distract from the picture
1968 hmmm, not my favorite but definitely different
1969 reminds me of 1967 set but not as cutting edge

The 1960 Topps set is also beautiful. Multicolored names, duel photos.. Coaches cards and first time World Series cards.. Plus Yaz's rookie...

The 60s were also the golden years for Topps insert and test sets, extending through the early 70s

1965 Topps is the best. 1967 is a close second. The 60's were a good decade for Topps but I can't stand 1960, 1964 or 1968 designs.

I would have to say the first of the decade, the 1960 set. For such a colorful decade, the cards of the 60s are pretty bland, overall. But I like the 1960 set quite a lot.

1. 1960 - Has the look of a 50's set. Love it !
2. 1963 - this set would be #1 if the gave Rose and Stargell solo rookie cards.
3. 1964
4. 1961

The only sets of that decade I'm not a fan of are 1962 (wood grain) and 1968 (funky boders with bad paper stock).

Funny...........1960 and 1964 are 2 of my favorites. Probably because they are so unique.

To me there is too little variation between the 1965 - 69 sets but they are all pretty nice.

Actually, culturally and visually, even with the turmoil of the Civil Rights movement and the Cuban Missile Crisis/Bay of Pigs, etc., the first half of the sixties was pretty stark. It wasn't until after about 1966 that things got stimulating. So, IMO, Topps kind of got backward as far a set design. They should have used the 60 design in 1970 and vice versa!

I also think the 1960s Topps sets were pretty amazing. The only one I am not a huge fan of is 1968. Still not a bad set though.

I also agree, the 1965 Topps set is my personal favorite as well. Though, there are several great sets from this decade, I just love the color and design of this set.

65. Like Sean, first cards I collected. I believe it has the most hall of famers as well, due to the unusually large number of rookie cards (Morgan Carlton Perez Hunter) and last cards (Stengel Berra Spahn Fox).

I am shocked no one likes the 68 set. I love the crazy 60's feel. Likewise, the 75 would be my fave of the 70's.

But second place would be either 65 or 67. I agree with the poster who found the 69 set dull. Just not much going on there.

I actually love the 1968 Topps set. It was one of the earliest sets I finished. I don't care to much for the 1969 Topps set. No team cards, all the team names in one color (yellow) and too many capless players.

1961 Topps baseball, but I can't stop at one. Must add 1962 Salada baseball coins, 1962 Post Cereal baseball, and 1960 Topps baseball.

Personally I like the '67 set the best and second to this set would be the '60 set. I may be different than most, but I do like all of the designs of this era (likely to the fact that Brooks Robinson is in all of them...).

Does it help or hurt you that Brooks Robinson is a very tough and pricy high number in the 1967 Topps set? Have you completed this set? I also agree that the 1960 Topps set is very awesome. Very colorful set!

Since the advent of eBay there are plenty of the '67 Brooks cards that pop up now and then. I do have the '67 card, but will ultimately upgrade (one day...). I'm really not a set collector, so I haven't finished a set since I was a kid. Mainly collect Brooks and some O's memorabilia.

Yeah...gotta love the '60 Topps as well!
