i am not sure if it is frowned upon to discuss an auction before it ends. but this is on goodwill and off the radar so i am not sure of the rule still goes.
is this too good to be true? http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem...temID=11752687 |

Interesting piece...looks authentic to me...but I have no idea as to value...some may be pissed off you outed this...but such is life.
Pick up only will prevent many from bidding. Might be worth a gamble?! |

Looks like a really nice piece. How did Goodwill end up with it?

Not baseball memorabilia, but when growing up my family had a real cool mid- sixties James Bond Road Race set, complete in the box that had a color photo of Sean Connery as J.B. When the family moved out of the house that I grew up in we donated it to Goodwill. And of course kicked ourselves since then...so valuable things can end up in thrift stores.
I'm ok with outing this auction--the money is going to a good cause. Brian |

Years ago I bought some stuff from a guy who dealt memorabilia out of his house. I think I bought a set of Nedicks baseball cups and probably some other inexpensive stuff.
He also dealt in toys and had 5 cases of those race sets brand new ![]() Steve B Quote:

I think it is an original. I have a beautiful reproduction of this item and I have to believe that anyone who would go to the trouble of distressing the piece and placing it in an antique frame and offering it to Goodwill would not be offering a fake to the public.
Just my 2 cents. Hope it goes for a nice price because the cause is a good one. tbob |

Looks real to me too, but authenticating from a scan always comes with some risk. Should be a low four-figure piece.

One sold in heritage back in may for only $775. |

Goodwill comes up with some nice pieces sometimes. I remember one of their sites on Ebay had a collection of about 100+ B18's listed at auction, sometime last year or so.

It could be real. Indiana's close to Chicago too. I'm sure there's a good number of Indiana families with ancestors from Chicago.
As noted it's pick up-only, which has positives and negatives for the buyer. The father of a local woman I met obtained a 1930s autograph lined notebook at a Seattle Goodwill where he worked. Signatures included Ruth, Throrpe, Foxx, Walter Johnson and many, many more. There were perhaps over 200 signatures. She consigned it through Mastro and, as I recall, it sold for something $7,000. I looked at the notebook in person before she consigned it. The father had gotten it a good number of years earlier, though. Not a recent find. Last edited by drc; 11-07-2012 at 12:18 PM. |

[QUOTE=yanks12025;1050851]Thanks Brock. I remember when those early Cubs prints were more like $1000-1200, sometimes more. I guess like so much other memorabilia it took a hit.
