1. The National Police Gazette with the first published images of the Lincoln assassination. April 22, 1865 National Police Gazette.

2. Babe Ruth is Dead, Aug 17, 1948 NY Daily Mirror. One of my all time favorite sports memorabilia items...bold and striking is an understatement!

3. The Victory of Gettsyburg in the Philadelphia Inquirer, July 6, 1863.

4. Pennsylvania Assembly's historic vote to declare indpendence, June 8, 1776 Pennsylvania Post(the smallest paper on there).

5. End of the Revolutionary War, printing of The Treaty of Paris, 1783, in the April 5, 1783 Massachusetts Spy newspaper. The masthead was printed by Paul Revere.

6. Death of Jesse James. That big photo is James on the cover of the April 22, 1882 Frank Leslie's Illustrated.

Definately not as old as some of the others newspapers featured, but one of my personal favorites. Here is the front of the Detroit Free Press complete newspaper following his 2nd career no-hitter on 7/15/73. Ryan felt that this game unquestionably featured his career best stuff. 17 K's and a game so overpowering that the last hitter up Norm Cash brought a table leg to the plate instead of a bat. When home plate umpire Ron Luciano asked Cash what was up with the table leg, Cash replied I'm not going to hit him anyway. What difference does it make?" Great stuff!!

Not part of this thread, but I'm also going to include photos of Ryan's catcher Art Kusnyer's catchers mitt from the 2nd no-hitter, a game used ball from the 2nd no-hitter, a vintage era autographed snapshot of Stormin' Norman and finally a vintage snapshot of Ryan exiting Tiger Stadium following the game. Check out the 1970's era threads that Ryan is wearing. I think I might have sold that exact jacket during my days selling mens suits at JC Penney's. LOL

Thanks for the comments, guys. I just went and took photos of a few more of mine. I purchased a collection of roughly a few dozen Boston newspapers about 10-12 years ago, most dating from 1910 - 1925, saved by someone who enjoyed major events. Thankfully for me, most of Boston's baseball glory coincided with that decade.

1) Boston Globe, April 15, 1912 morning edition (the framed one above is the 7:30 evening edition, with more info) - reports are that the Titanic is sinking, but it's assumed boats are on the way and no known casualties yet. Love the story; this was THE first report of trouble!

2) Boston Globe, April 21, 1912 - more Titanic follow-up stories, but off to the left-hand side is a story about the Red Sox opening some new ballpark, Fenway or something like that.

3) Boston Post, Sept. 23, 1920 - World Series was Fixed! Black Sox story revealed

4) Boston Post, Sept. 15, 1912 - Tris Speaker picture, article (ghost?) written by Christy Mathewson about Speaker being the most feared hitter

Here are two of my favorite, the first being a Dec 6, 1773 issue of the Massachusetts Gazette, Boston newspaper. The entire front page is about the Tea just being landed from the East-India Tea company, and the Boston selectmen's committe(hancock and Adams) on what to do with it.

Scott S, the Tea Paper is awesome! All the front page is devoted to the tea that is just landed and is sitting in Boston Harbor. The front page also contains Governor Hutchinsons's letter to the rebels informing them of their illegal meeting.

Being in a Boston paper...very exciting!

Here is the National Police Gazette from APril 29, 1865. It shows more scenes from the Lincoln assassination. THe first picture in the thread shows the April 22 paper with the first report with the shooting.

First off, great thread guys. Thanks to everyone who has shared.
I think I have shown this paper once/twice before but it fits here, I guess. It is the New York Times from 1927. It is a rag edition too which is sort of cool. And here is a card, below that, which I had for a few years when I saw the paper. Then I had to have the paper .

Check out this Oct 28, 1871 issue of the Days Doings, and their coverage of the Great Chicago Fire. Below is the centerfold with a sketch of Mrs. O'Leary's cow. Quite the rare paper and illustration!

Coincidently I just bought an 1881 American newspaper directory a couple weeks ago off eBay...seems to list every newspaper from the biggest cities to every backwater little burg...essentially I believe the directory was marketed to business' who wanted to run ads and needed a list of, and contact info, for all newspapers so they could advertise their products...I've always found the newspaper business interesting.

I don't mean to be rude, but this IS a baseball forum and because of that we actually can talk about newspapers without showing colonial papers (or any other non-baseball issues).

I keep looking at this string hoping to see cool old newspapers with BASEBALL material, and keep getting disappointed to hear that Jesse James (or somebody) is dead.

Did someone say they wanted some old baseball newspapers? Here ya go!

First up, two adjoining pages leading up to the 1912 World Series. First page pictures McGraw holding a plate with all of the NY Giants, while Stahl offers up a plate of all of the Boston Red Sox.

Next, a 1915 paper featuring head shots of all of the Red Sox. Some young pitcher George Ruth in the front there. (Glare is because this is framed.)

Lastly, say it ain't so, Joe!
