I got a call 2 days ago from a gentleman that found my website and my personal collection online. His name is Steve Sutthoff. You guessed it, it is Jack's grandson. There is a very good biography of him online but the main question is, are there any baseball cards of him besides this one? Anymore stories or info would be great too. I love the poem on this one .....
Also, to Brian Campf.- I believe I got this from you. Can you tell me where you picked it up?

Leon, I don't think Jack was ever pictured on any true "cards" but I do have this Stenzel's Rooter Button of Sutthoff...

Good Golly! That Sutthoff card must be haunted! It obviously fueled the prohibition era and now look at what chaos it has caused on this thread. I want no part of its karma...........Leon, please immediately remove me from the number three slot on your Sutthoff beneficiary will!

When I first saw the title on the main page I thought someone hacked Leon's account, especially with the "It's no sin to pour it in" part added to it.

Hello to all and many thanks to Leon. I want to also thank everyone who has replied to this and attached the articles and photos. Although I am not a collector of the really old stuff like you guys, I have collected cards since I was a kid, 70's to 90's. I still love the hobby but with a family of my own I really don't have the cash to do it properly anymore (maybe when the kiddies move out??). With all that being said I do VERY much want to get ANYTHING related to my Grandfather. I have the scan from Leon and will print a copy at work. What a great guy!, he was kind enough to talk with me for about a half hour and even post this thread to help me out. In closing I do hope he will eventually sell or trade that card to me someday. Im actually kind of proud that anyone even give a darn about my Grandfather's items!
I would love to get these items and display them for my family to see, we never got to meet the man and my father and all aunts and uncles are gone. Copies and photos are nice, but I am hoping to get the real things. Thanks again! Steve Sutthoff Last edited by Sutthoff Grandson; 09-05-2010 at 08:27 AM. |

I'm not related to any baseball players that I know of so I will be happy to accept cash donations for my baseball card budget instead. In all seriousness, that was a very classy gesture that reflects what the hobby should be all about.

![]() Rob- I truly wasn't looking for a pat on the back, but thanks. When we are on our deathbed and look back at our lives, it won't be about material things, it will be about what we did. I will admit I hated seeing the card go but knowing where it is going made it all worth it many times over. Random acts of kindness are always a good thing. best regards

One more thing if I may, while I very much appreciate the support of other members on here I don't want anyone to feel obligated to give up or even offer to sell anything in their collection. After all, it is a collection and any item in it is there for a reason and I respect that.

That is really cool, it must be very humbling to look at the card and think 'that's my grandfather' ! I have pictures of my grandfather working out in the wheat field and it is very surreal to look at and think about how different times were and how much things have changed and yet stayed the same. Very nice of Leon to give you a connection to your past.

Steve- That makes it all worth it. Glad he arrived safely. I am always a little concerned about very scarce heirlooms getting lost. Thanks for the update. best regards
