Sure there will general approval of this. I think three years in a row in the midwest is dull and will probably supress the Cleveland turn out, but I'm not a dealer and have no skin in the game. I would have put the third in the west (CA) or southwest somewhere.

I'd have a much better chance of selling the National to my wife if it was a joint vacation to say Denver, Austin, Santa Fe, San Fran, Memphis, etc... basically anywhere other than New Jersey, Cleveland, and Chicago (which is a great town, but not every two years).

IF the Cleveland date was in Rosemont it would be better. But this is not bad to me. Of course if it were in Dallas I could just hop over there at lunch

For as much as I love Chicago as a city, I can't stand that venue or area. While it's incredibly convenient for its purpose (a huge bonus), there's nothing to do in that area. It's an absolute bore. I was usually too burnt out after being at the show and just not in the mood for lengthy travels afterward. Even finding something simple to do such as going to a good Mom and Pop diner in the morning isn't anywhere nearby that I could ever find. If you like Mexican food or pricey steak houses, you'll be in heaven, but that's not for everyone.
Cleveland...I do like the venue here a lot more than in Chicago. Love the wide open floor plan which is extremely easy to navigate. Parking is dead simple, plentiful and affordable. From a purely personal perspective, I've had better fortune in at Cleveland Nationals versus those held in Chicago. Not fond of that city, however, and have always had a bit of a drive between venue and hotel if I recall. I can never wait to be on my way out of town. As someone posted in the other National thread, it wouldn't be such a bad idea to do an interchange with Chicago--fresh city--Chicago--fresh city, etc. Perhaps another idea would be Chicago--fresh city--Cleveland, etc. Last edited by BillyCoxDodgers3B; 09-01-2022 at 09:04 AM. |

I am personally of the opinion that much like ComicCon and many other events just parking the show in one place (Chicago) is perfectly fine.
We've gone ad nauseum over this topic and I suspect after many of us are long gone, we'll still be going ad nauseum over this topic but remember there are only "x" amount of places which meet the current group's requirements and we don't yet know if the new management's group is going to be the same way. If so, we're limited to our choices, and we can say what we want and many of us (including me over the years do) but for various BUISNESS reasons our choices are limited. Rich

On the other hand, the porn industry has held their convention in the same place as far back as I can remember (Vegas), and no one's going to argue that they haven't prospered over the years.

Ohh boy, can't wait for a crowded Rosemont filled with more corporate booths. That convention hall is going to feel small quick.
Cleveland has much cheaper hotel and food options and the convention hall and parking blows away Rosemont. Sure would be nice to give another city a try though...any city. Feel for the people in the south or west coast. |

I have attended Nationals in Chicago, Cleveland and Houston ( I was living in Houston at the time) My wife accompanied to one in Chicago and one Cleveland. She won't go back to Chicago: Too much traffic, hard to get around etc.) We had a great time in Cleveland. The hotel shuttled us to the show and picked us up. We went to the Football Hall of Fame in Canton and the President McKinley homestead in Canton on our way back. She likes to go but, now would like to see a different venue. (We were all set for Baltimore but it was cancelled) I was stationed near Baltimore when I was in the Army and was looking forward to it.
I guess I'm just tired of Chicago.

While moving the National around I think would be great, I can certainly understand why they stay in the Northeast corner and continue to rotate between the 4 current cities. Below is a break down of the dealers from this years national by name and booths. NY, NJ, PA combined are top 3 and make up 30%. Why not have it where dealers are? Also below is the US Census map from 2020. Again, population density looks to be in the northeast. Why not have it where most people are? To me it is only common sense to keep it in that area from a business standpoint.
State Dealers Percent Booths Percent NY 38 11.08% 64 10.63% NJ 31 9.04% 61 10.13% PA 30 8.75% 52 8.64% FL 27 7.87% 56 9.30% IL 27 7.87% 40 6.64% TX 19 5.54% 37 6.15% OH 15 4.37% 25 4.15% VA 14 4.08% 24 3.99% MI 14 4.08% 21 3.49% CA 11 3.21% 22 3.65% GA 10 2.92% 22 3.65% MN 9 2.62% 11 1.83% NC 8 2.33% 12 1.99% TN 7 2.04% 10 1.66% IN 7 2.04% 11 1.83% MD 7 2.04% 13 2.16% MO 6 1.75% 10 1.66% WI 5 1.46% 8 1.33% CT 5 1.46% 12 1.99% AZ 4 1.17% 6 1.00% WA 4 1.17% 9 1.50% KY 4 1.17% 5 0.83% IA 4 1.17% 7 1.16% CO 4 1.17% 6 1.00% AR 3 0.87% 4 0.66% Canada 3 0.87% 4 0.66% MA 3 0.87% 4 0.66% ND 3 0.87% 7 1.16% KS 2 0.58% 3 0.50% ME 2 0.58% 2 0.33% VT 2 0.58% 4 0.66% SC 2 0.58% 3 0.50% RI 2 0.58% 3 0.50% NV 2 0.58% 6 1.00% DE 2 0.58% 3 0.50% OK 1 0.29% 1 0.17% NH 1 0.29% 2 0.33% NE 1 0.29% 4 0.66% OR 1 0.29% 4 0.66% WV 1 0.29% 1 0.17% ID 1 0.29% 1 0.17% HI 1 0.29% 2 0.33% Grand Total 343 100.00% 602 100.00% ![]()

Interesting breakdown. But for those of us hoping for something on the Western Coast, it appears that dealers from CA, OR, WA, AZ and NV accounted for 22 dealers and 45 tables, just slightly better than IL.
And I'm certain both numbers would increase if there was a something out here where it all started in the first place. Just my 2cents. |

Yes, but that is why it qualifies as the Paris of southern Ohio.

I get it. When Columbus and the OSU cult is the center of your universe I am sure Cleveland seems exotic.

I'd love if it was out in the middle of nowhere in a massive Old barn.
Obviously this would never work, the infrastructure just wouldn't be there. You would have to have it near a big city (few hour drive maybe from the site itself) kinda like a state fair type deal. Would make the experience so much more enjoyable and you could bring family too. Say there's a petting zoo and food trucks etc. Just can't imagine a better time.
