Odd question but what would half a original 52 Topps Mantle be worth
Someone cut it in half over the years Top half only Bottom is long gone I do not think anyone would even slab it |

This is an opportunity for full on card restoration!

That raises an interesting question though: how much do you need of a card for it to still be considered a card?
51% or more? I think that is the standard for dollar bills, but it seems a bit low for a baseball card. Anyway, establishing that standard would tell you if you can say you have a 1952 Topps Mantle, or if you have a piece of scrap cardboard.

I'll take a guess that such a card would be in the neighborhood of $1,000-1,500.

My criteria for a great classic that is valuable is any card you can cut in half and half the card (with the face) would still get $1000 in an auction

I believe they would. Just tell them that you want it graded AUTH.

I think there was a fraction of a T206 Wagner that sold as well.

About 10 years ago, I had the opportunity to purchase a 1935 Goudey Babe Ruth... just the Ruth cut from the card (he's supposed to appear on the card with 3 other guys). It was in a bargain box and was $20. Never owned a authentic Ruth card. That was my one and only shot. I passed. Big dummy.

Maybe you could cut the half into 100 pieces and sell for $10 each.

That is a genius idea. You could easily sell those for $20 each.

I bet one of the custom card makers could make you 100 custom cards, and you could imbed a little fragment of your Mantle as a "relic" for the custom cards. Bet those would actually sell...

I think for a '52 mantle, card restoration would be the way to go. If you find the right guy, it could do a world of difference. That's a better idea than chopping it up into 100 pieces. As long as you're honest about it, people will understand and not be upset.
A previous thread shows how it worked with a Wagner. http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...ht=restoration
