Hi Guys:
How about a fun thread where we show our favorite card where the player is in one teams uniform, but the card says he plays for another team. And I am not talking about back in the day when Topps took photos of players without their hats and used the photo once the player was traded. Nor am I talking about the cards where Topps showcased their terrible airbrushing talent. Cards like this Ashburn where he is shown in a Phillies jersey and cap yet the card shows him as a member of the Cubs after his trade. So, let's see your fav's! |

Not necessarily. Could be "before and after" pics following several tanning bed sessions.

Curt:
This is one of the bad Topps air brushing deals I mentioned. They airbrushed DODGERS on the front of his jersey. |

This one is bizarre on two levels, because not only does the uniform not match the team on the card, but the actual team name is wrong as well!!!

I always hated when the card companies did this. In the 1963 Fleer set, there are only 4 Cleveland Indians, and Fleer managed to get only two in a Cleveland uniform (Kindall and Francona, FYI). I remember opening up 1984 Donruss cards and pulling Brook Jacoby rookie cards, playing for Cleveland but in a Braves uniform. And, sadly, the only card of Tim Crews to show him on the Cleveland team has him in his Dodgers uni.

No offense to Tom Haller but Topps couldn't put Kaline,Lolich, Horton or any other Tiger in the IA series. They did manage to put Billy Martin in there. I guess they figured Haller was at least as good as other catchers like Mitterwald, Barton, Blefary,Corrales etc. Topps had a thing for bad catchers in 1972.

Many "common" players did (Alan Galagher, Pat Corrales????) and many All Stars (Gibson and Brock for 2) did not. |

I believe the Cardinals with Torre,Brock, Gibson, Carlton and the Orioles with the Robinsons, Powell, Palmer, McNally etc had none while teams like the Giants, A,s, Mets and Yanks all had at least 10. Tim Foli or John Ellis never excited me living in New York

All of the 1972 Topps In Action cards were photographed at Shea Stadium, Yankee Stadium, Candlestick Park, and the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum, I assume in 1971, apparently the Topps photographers didn't make it to any Cardinal or Oriole games in those stadiums that year.

I remember that card well. Thought they did a pretty good air-brush job, especially given some of the monstrosities that can be found in that set. Problem is, it jumps off the page immediately as off because no one would have ever seen a Twins player in an ivy-walled stadium. Too bad, because the photo itself and the centering of it in the card are great.

Does anyone have a photo of the 1961 Topps Dick Farrell card? I believe this would fall into this category.
