This is a thread ladder. Each post on the forum has number. If you post on this thread, your post must contain a record equal to the number of the post. Let's see how high we can go. Pictures are preferred in the post, but are not mandatory. To demonstrate these simple rules let's get started with the first number

1. The number of perfect games in World Series history.




Who's next? Number 2 should not be too difficult.

Good lord the thread has been corrupted in 3 posts. I really thought it would last longer than that.

For low information forum members the post number is the little white number on the blue background in the upper right corner of each post.

Please note that I am commenting on the progress of this thread in the first post to preserve the integrity of the concept described in the rules.

I have a feeling this post will grow considerably.

You are by all means welcome to edit posts that are not compliant with the rules,

no criticism or apologetic posts are appropriate.


Rules violations are piling up and are too numerous to mention individually, but you know who you are or not.

The forum members are a bell shaped curve and overall I would give a grade of C collectively to all of you at this point. Some of you though will have to stay after school at the chalkboard and write

"I promise to understand the rules of a thread before posting and apologize for my egregious violations."

Repeat 99 times (that's 100 in all). If you need more chalk, just holler.

For those of you in the lower half of the bell curve, you might consider a job in politics.

Peter Spaeth continues to do an excellent job pointing out omissions without realizing that each time he posts, he is causing the problem he is pointing out, sort of like a merry-go-round.

His record lasted one year. His name was Babe Ruth.

Wade Boggs claims that he once drank 107 beers on a cross-country US flight, which would totally obliterate the accepted record of 52 by some Australian footballer. Boggs is known for his beer consumption so the story has some basis of truth perhaps. Along with that he may have also set a record for most trips to the john.

Amazing this record still stands after 61 years! In 1961, Maris (61) and Mantle (54) combined for 115 homeruns.

William Ellsworth "Dummy" Hoy was a major league outfielder from 1888 to 1902. The first deaf ballplayer, Hoy is credited with starting the practice of umpires signaling safe and out calls.

Hoy set many records during his career and finished with a .288 batting average, 2,048 hits and 121 triples.

Rather than dwell on a tie shared by Ed Konectchy and Derrek, I am going to go with Giancarlo Stanton who tied his record for the fastest ground ball hit at 122.2 MPH recently. The play resulted in a double play unfortunately.

Yes, that's right. Arlie Latham was credited with 129 steals in 1887. It wasn't good enough to lead the league, though; making him the most prolific bridesmaid in history. He fell nine short of the total put up by Hugh Nicol, a mark that has stood the test of time.

Latham's St. Louis Browns captured the AA Pennant that year, though. They outpaced Nicol's Cincinnati Red Stockings by 14 games.

In the WWI-shortened 1918 season, Charlie Hollocher of the Cubs led MLB as the only player to appear in 131 games–the maximum possible due to the shortened schedule. This would stand as the lowest number of games played to lead MLB until the 1981 strike season.

How about I go back all the way to July 2nd, 2022, an entire 12 days ago.

Shane McClanahan set a major-league record while pitching seven innings of one-run ball in the Rays' 6-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays during the first game of a Saturday doubleheader. He became the only pitcher in MLB history with 19 earned runs or fewer and at least 133 strikeouts thru 16 starts of a season.

(Whoever takes the next one should have a pretty easy go if they check the 1899 season, lol)

In his sophomore year (1937 - St Louis Cardinals), Johnny Mize got 204 Hits, resulting in a tremendous .364 BA in 145 games.

Tremendous way to start off a Baseball career....of which he certainly had one. Johnny is one of my all-time favorite ballplayers.
I had the pleasure of visiting Big John at his home in Demorest, GA in 1986.
