Hi, I was watching this on ebay yesterday, and it sparked some curiosity on my part.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT From all research I've done, I've only seen this strip card with his cap tilted to the other side(basically the photo on this is reversed). Does anyone have any info as to whether or not there was a variation in this set? Or is this just simply perfect evidence of being a reprint or counterfeit? I didn't bid on it, as I was leaning towards the latter... |

Looks ok to me. W519/520/521 are "screwy" set(s), with reverse and number variations:

thanks for the link and info buddy....
Basically the 1921 W521 was the same set as the 1920 W519's with reversed images.. So the seller just had this mis-listed. Ended up going higher that I would've paid in that condition anyways. |

The card pictured in auction is a W521. The image is reversed ......on portrait cards you can tell by looking at jersey front (buttons on left of seam is reversed photo)
W519-1 ......10 cards, have no numbers and only have blue backgrounds, photos regular W519-2-1 .......(#1-#20) 20 cards, black card numbers, photos regular W519-2-2 .......(#11-#20) 10 cards, different numbering from other related sets, BLUE card numbers, photos regular, (extremely rare) Note: checklist in 2009 SCD (and maybe 2010,2011) has errors, the Veach, Barnes and Schang listed in W519-2-2 are really misidentified W519-2-1s or W521's) W521 .......(#1-#20) 20 cards, same numbering and design as W519-2-1 but photos reversed edited to add, if anyone knows the last 2 W519-2-2 cards I need for a complete checklist I need the #15 and #18 players identified, Gavvy Cravath card will be one of them, with his first name as "Gobby" making it different from other related sets that used "Gabby", the only card I saw was heavily trimmed and the number was missing (should be either #15 or #18). Yes those are all right.
The W519-2-2 is a different set. it has a blue card number Here are some examples They are very rare and I dont know of anyone that has a complete set, I dont even know who 2 of the players are (see above). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Theyve only been in the SCD for a few years now... first couple years there was only 2 cards known/checklisted (Frisch, Morton) and slowly theyve added to the checklist. the last SCD I have is 2009 and they dont have the #11 listed, and 3 of the cards listed a "b" variations I highly doubt exist, and they would match the W519-2-1 and W521 numbers Here is the list of known W519-2-2 #11 Kid Gleason #12 Joe Murphy (pictured as a catcher, ?no such player?) #13 Frank Frisch #14 Eddie Collins #15 UNKNOWN (might be Cravath) #16 Guy Morton #17 Rube Marquard #18 UNKNOWN (might be Cravath) #19 Ernie Kreuger #20 Babe Ruth |
