I picked this up at the National on the first day from Terry Knouse for what I thought was a great price...it was around $525.....and is a horizontal which I kind of like. I figured I would nab this to get that slot out of the way even though I really haven't tried to collect cabinets. Anyone else with any T5's can show them if you want to. BTW, didn't I hear these came from the factory with only the top edge glued down and now most have been glued down all of the way? regards (I didn't get the quarter there) |

Leon, is that a correct mount for a T5 Pinkerton cabinet? The ones that I have seen before did not come on a mount like that. Maybe they were issued with a variety of mounts? |

I am of the opinion that they come in a number of mount styles. The cream colr and the gray color are common. |

I've never seen a T5 mount like Leon's, but, as noted, there are variety of mounts for the cards. |

I assumed it was a correct mount but maybe not? No biggie as I still consider it what it is...the photo is certainly a Pinkerton... |

No question, the photo is a Pinkerton photo, but I agree that is not an original Pinkerton mount. |

May I ask what a Pinkerton cabinet is? Is that a particular photographer? Is there a significant reason why a Pinkerton is desirable over other cabinets? Sorry for my lame questions, but I don't know a thing about these. |

They were issued as premiums by Pinkerton brand tobacco, so are both cabinet cards and tobacco cards. They are cataloged as T5. |

had about 20 or so of them. Won 13 in a Mastronet auction years back. They were either cream or the grey mounts like those pictured. I've seen more than one on a mount similar to Leon's but don't really know what to make of that. Maybe it was a 'fill in' when they ran out of the cream or grey mounts. The cream & grey mounts were all the exact same size. For the most part, all I had were glued with a thin line of glue at the top although I had some that were glued in both places. I have to guess the latter had been done at a later time, not original to the issue. I had a McCarthy at one time.....not sure if Dan got it or not. I believe the last bigger batch I had, I sold to Brian Dec at one point. Couple years ago. Great issue and harder to find than they used to be. Had a Cobb at one time that was glued at top and bottom. The actual photo is paper thin. It is not an albumen type photo but basically paper. Have a BUNCH of photos of them on a hard drive at home that I'll try to post at a later time.............. |

Thanks for chiming in. You are no more of a luddite than many of us. Within the last 3 months I have got high speed access AND a digital camera.....I still miss the Big Chief and Crayola's that were standard issue for so many of us in grade school.....If you can get a scan and send it to me I will post it for you....And I guess my "period" mount will suffice for now....besides, mine looks better than ya'lls |

I think Dan got it from me.....I know we've done business before and my McCarthy was on a cream-colored mount from a lot of 10-13 or so from a Mastronet auction. I think about 8-10 of the lot were Toledo Players. 1/2 cream colored and 1/2 grey mounts. |

If there is any question that Pinkertons come with an amazing variety of mounts, just check out Clean Sweeps seven Pinkertons up for auction. Several of them have confirmed that my paper mounted Babe Adams is indeed an authentic mount, rather than a replacement for a lost mount. |
