Am I the only one who hasn't seen an example of the 1953 Bowman Pee Wee Reese with exceptionally good focus? The one's I've seen all seem to have some degree of "fuzziness" to it. Maybe just cuz the two players are so small in the picture. Anyone have a good quality scan they wouldn't mind sharing? I really like the card, one of my favs. |

The far away shots in the 1953 Bowman set are out often of focus. In addition to Reese, Whitey Lockman, Jim Brideweiser, Bobby Morgan, Bob Feller and Gil Hodges fall into this category. I've seen more out of focus Hodges cards than even Reese. For some reason, the focus is just more evident on these distant images. Who knows what techniques Bowman used to print these great photos, which in my opinion have never been matched. By the way, has anyone ever seen a '53 Bowman of Ferris Fain? I once saw a "proof" of it in a magazine. It's another great far away shot, very similar to Hodges or Lockman, but taken in Yankee Stadium. I'm curious why it was never released. Since there are two Al Corwins in the set, I'm guessing one was intended to be Fain, who I believe was the defending AL batting champ ... |
