n172 autographed cards

i was just wondering if anyone has ever seen or heard of any n172 old judge cards being autographed by any of the respected players in the set?, the oldest card that i have ever seen autographed is a t206, does any n172 autographed cards exist?, any help would be appreciated.

Good question. I have yet to see one. A Boardmember bought a Hugh Duffy signed Mayo in a recent auction at a 'bargain'. If any of you do have one, please scan!

Several years ago Mastro had an N172 Connie Mack that was autographed on the back. There is also a Mayo autographed by Hugh Duffy. Both have certificates.

There is a set of Warren studio cdv's of the 1872 Boston Red Stockings that are autographed by the players - this is arguably the oldest team "card" set, and I've seen evidence that at least three partial sets still exist (only one autographed).

Though they aren't trading cards, a collector can find 19th century cdvs and cabinet cards signed by famous people, from George Wright to Robert E. Lee. In the old days, cartes de visite (French for "visiting card" or "card to be given when you visit") were often made for the person to be handed or mailed out like business or calling cards. It would be natural for the owner of a cdv to sometimes write a little note and sign it.

My favorite 19c piece I've seen autographed was a cabinet sized photo of Kid Nichols in his Omaha uniform that was signed on the back with a love letter to his girlfriend. The lady that showed it to me said that the girlfriend was her great-great grand mother. Couldn't get her to sell it, but don't really blame her either. She was just curious what it might be worth.
